Shanghai residents passing thrugh the city’s eastern Huangpu District earlier this mnth might be surprised t catch an unusual sight: a “walking” building. An 85-year-ld primary schl has been lifted ff the grund — in its entirety — and relcated using new technlgy called the “walking machine”.
In the city’s latest effrt t preserve histric structures, engineers attached nearly 200 mbile supprts under the five-strey building. The supprts act like rbtic legs. They’re split int tw grups which alternately (交替地) rise up and dwn, imitating the human stride. Attached sensrs help cntrl hw the building mves frward.
In recent decades, China’s rapid mdernizatin has seen many histric buildings razed t clear land fr grand skyscrapers and ffice buildings. But there has been grwing cncern abut the architectural heritage lst as a result f tear-dwn acrss the cuntry. Shanghai has arguably been China’s mst prgressive city when it cmes t heritage preservatin. The survival f a number f 1930s buildings in the famus Bund district and 19th-century “shikumen” (r “stne gate”) huses in the renvated Xintiandi neighbrhd have ffered examples f hw t give ld buildings new life. The city als has a track recrd f relcating ld buildings. In 2018, the city relcated a 90-year-ld building in Hngku District, in what was then cnsidered t be Shanghai’s mst cmplex relcatin prject t date.
The Lagena Primary Schl, which weighs 7,600 tns, psed a new challenge — it’s T-shaped, whereas previusly relcated structures were square r rectangular. Experts and technicians met t discuss pssibilities and test a number f different technlgies befre deciding n the “walking machine”.
Citizens welcme and appreciate the effrts made by the municipal gvernment t prtect these ld buildings. In their eyes, nt nly are the ld buildings part f their memry but they als represent part f Shanghai’s histry.

C.A 5-strey building in Shanghai “walks” t a new lcatin.
D.Citizens in Shanghai are shcked t see buildings

Based n a study, dgs’ brains cannt distinguish wrds that differ by a single speech sund, such as “dig” versus “dg”, r “sit” versus “set”. This makes dgs similar t human infants, wh als can’t distinguish between wrds with similar sunds. But arund age 14 t 20 mnths, babies typically start t learn that every sund in a wrd matters (i.e. that “dg” and “dig” are different wrds), and this allws them t prliferate their vcabulary, the authrs said.
It appears that dgs never grasp these distinctins. “Dgs might nt attend t all details f speech sund when they listen t wrds,” study senir authr Attila Andics, f the Department f Ethlgy at Eötvös Lránd University in Hungary, said in a statement. “Further research culd reveal whether this culd be a reasn that disables dgs frm acquiring a numerus vcabulary”.
Fr the study, published Tuesday (Dec. 8) in the jurnal Ryal Sciety Open Science, the researchers mnitred the brain waves f 17 very gd dgs using a technique called electrencephalgraphy (EEG) (脑电图). The study is ne f the first t use EEG n awake dgs that didn’t have any specific training. The dgs visited the lab with their wners, and nce the dgs gt used t the new envirnment, they sat dwn n a carpet with their wners, and the researchers attached electrdes (电极) t the dgs’ heads with tape.
The dgs’ brains culd quickly discriminate the wrds that they knew frm the wrds that sunded very different (“sit” vs. “bep”). But their brains seemed t make n difference between the wrds they knew and the wrds that differed by nly a single speech sund (“sit” vs. “sut”). Researchers have seen a similar pattern in infants yunger than 14 mnths.
It’s nt that the dgs can’t hear the different sunds — studies have fund that dgs can distinguish individual speech sunds (such as “d,” “” and “g”). But they may have “attentinal and prcessing biases (偏差)” that prevent them frm attending t all the sunds in a wrd, they said. Future studies with a large number f subjects (实验对象) and mre trials f wrds are needed t cnfirm the findings, they said.
28.The underlined wrd in Paragraph1 is clsest in meaning t _______.
    A.change flexiblyB.grasp easily
    C.increase greatlyD.distinguish clearly
29.What des Paragraph 3 mainly intend t tell the readers?

C.The whle prcedure f the experiment.
D.The methd emplyed in the experiment.
30.Accrding t the finding, if a dg knew the wrd “trip”, which f the fllwing wrds wuld it misunderstand when hearing them?
    A.Tread.B.Trick.C.Shirt.D.Scrip.
31.What will the researchers d t draw a further cnclusin?
A.Rid dgs f the attentinal and prcessing biases.
B.Integrate means t make the result mre scientific.
    C.Test different types f dgs t avid ne-sidedness.
D.Observe mre participants distinguishing mre wrds.

I recently read The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks, a psychlgist wh intrduces the cncept f different “znes” in life and wrk. These znes describe varying levels f ability and fulfillment (满足感) in ur activities. The Zne f Disability invlves tasks yu’re nt gd at; the Zne f Ability includes tasks yu’re capable f but find unsatisfying. The Zne f Excellence is where yu stand ut but might feel a little discuraged, and finally, the Zne f Genius is where yur unique talents and passins shine, leading t deep fulfillment.
Curius t identify my Zne f Genius, I tk a related test. T my surprise, it turns ut my Zne f Genius is “Netwrking.” I even cnsidered framing (装裱) the results and hanging them ver the fireplace. This situatin is particularly amusing, because I am ften perceived as an intrvert (内向的人) — sme wuld say I tend t escape frm scial cntacts. That makes me ccasinally in lw spirits and dubtful abut my ability t scialize. What explains this cntradictin?
Perceptins f intrversin largely depend n cultural expectatins, with different scieties defining “intrverted” and “extrverted” behavirs differently. In the United States, extrversin is ften idealized. In cntrast, in sme East Asian cultures, such as Japan and China, value is assciated with intrversin. Differences als exist between Nrthern and Suthern Eurpe. Research shws that the level f intrversin differs widely acrss cultures, making it challenging t label intrversin universally.
Cntrary t the pinin that intrverts are shy, research suggests they pssess unique skills and strengths. The Harvard Grant Study shws that intrverts tend t have fewer but deeper and mre meaningful relatinships. Anther misunderstanding is that intrverts d nt make gd leaders. Hwever, studies shw that intrverted leaders can be just as effective — if nt mre s than the extrverts.
It’s vital t distinguish between intrversin and shyness. Shyness is a fear f scial judgment. Hwever, intrverts can be highly scial, particularly in small grups r ne-n-ne cnversatins. Their preference fr meaningful interactin ver small talk makes them experts at frming deep, lasting relatinships. S, the next time yu meet an intrvert, remember that their quiet behavir may hide a wrld f deep thughts, keen insights, and pwerful leadership ptential.
32.If yur Zne f Excellence is “English”, it may mean ________.
A.yu are in truble cmpleting English assignments
B.yu can display yur talent in English t the fullest
C.yur mind always wander ff when learning English
D.yu have a grasp f English but feel upset ccasinally
33.Why did the authr cnsider framing the results and hanging them?
A.The results were in line with his belief.
B.The results prved his ability in scial life.
C.The results cnfirmed his nature f intrversin.
D.The results reminded him t avid scial cntacts.
34.Accrding t the text, t tell whether a persn is an intrvert, yu shuld take ________ int cnsideratin.
    A.his birthplaceB.his inner value
    C.his cultural backgrundD.his educatin level
35.Accrding t the text, which f the fllwing is TRUE abut the intrverts?
A.They can develp lasting relatinships with thers.
B.They fear deeper and mre meaningful relatinships.
C.They have advantages ver the extrverts in wrkplace.
D.They ften hide their unique ptential in frnt f thers.
