They cntacted the Trnt-area hspital near the family, asking them t create an adaptive cast n his arm that wuld allw the then 10-year-ld t hld the bw (琴弓).
A grup f engineers wrked alngside Anantawan t build a special device. With it, Anantawan culd use the bw and use his shulder t make the sund. “Frm the very first nte that I was playing, I was really attracted t the sund and the cnnectin f my bdy t the instrument and being able t express my imaginatin,” he said.
Althugh Anantawan is grateful fr the technlgy that allws him and thers with disabilities t find access t music, he said the mst imprtant part f access is that teachers, supprters and thse wh encurage yung learners r musicians by telling them they can d anything are able t accept diversity.

As an assciate prfessr at the Berklee Cllege f Music, Anantawan funded the Music Inclusin Ensemble, a grup f students with disabilities that prvides accmmdatins fr musicians accrding t their needs. While many animal ppulatins seem t be dwindling, ne species that is mving in the ppsite directin is America’s native wd strk (林鹳).
The wd strk is the nly strk that breeds in Nrth America. In 1984, it was declared an endangered species after its ppulatin fell t just 5,000 mating pairs. The wd strk’s native hme was in the Everglades in Flrida, but it migrated nrth as the Everglades were being destryed by develpment. In 1987, frmer Savannah Natinal Wildlife Refuge bilgist Jhn Rbinette nticed strk nests in Gergia as strk ppulatins mved t safer wetlands.
Accrding t Stephanie Kurse, a senir plicy specialist at the Centre fr Bilgical Diversity, the Endangered Species Act is als the key factr t this recvery. In an email t Natinal Public Radi, she said, “The act saved the wd strk and it helped preserve and rebuild vital habitats thrughut the sutheast, which has imprved water quality and benefited cuntless ther species that call the area hme.”
The Endangered Species Act has saved many f the species that were n the list since 1973. A hundred types f plants and animals have been delisted (从表上剔除) as their ppulatins becme stable again.
