Every 40 days a language dies. This “catastrphic” lss is being intensified by the climate crisis, accrding t linguists. If nthing is dne, cnservative estimates suggest half f all the 7000 languages currently spken will be extinct by the end f the century.

“Languages are already endangered,” says Anastasia Richl, directr f the Strathy language unit at Queen’s University in Kingstn, Ontari.
