17-year-ld Kenan Pala has a wealth f experience in dealing with hmelessness and helping thse in need.
The Ranch Bernard student became ne f the 17 yung adults appinted ( 任命) t the newly revamped ( 改进的) San Dieg Yuth Cmmissin by Mayr Tdd Glria in 2021. “Being n the Cmmissin is very imprtant and it’s an exciting new stage fr my wrk in the cmmunity,” Pala said.
Pala started Kids4Cmmunity in 2017. The grup wrks with lcal charities and vlunteer rganizatins t encurage children 5 and up t d charity wrk.
Since the beginning, a majr fcus f Kids4Cmmunity has been t help the hmeless. The grup meets regularly t prvide meal services and care packages (包裹) t the hmeless and thse in need.
Pala said his interest in helping thers cmes frm the example set by his parents. “My parents mved here frm Turkey in 1998. Life was really hard at first, but my parents said they gt a lt f help frm the San Dieg cmmunity. They tried very hard t give back whenever and wherever help was needed,” he said.
Pala is als chair f the Lucky Ducklings Yuth Advisry Bard, part f the Lucky Duck Fundatin, anther charity with the missin f driving yuth participatin in cmmunity issues, particularly in helping t deal with the issue f hmeless yuth.
The yung man has just been admitted t Yale University. At Yale, he plans t majr in ecnmics r business, because persnal funds and private equity (私募股权) are all his interests. “I want t pursue ( 追求) a career path, but link it with my cmmunity and scial wrk,” he said.

What sets parrts apart? In the new research, Smeele and his clleagues gathered data n ver 130,000 individual parrts held in mre than 1,000 zs, representing 217 species. Thrugh this data, they created reliable estimates f the average lifespan fr each species. They next searched fr a link between each species’ lifespan and its relative brain size and fund a clear, psitive crrespndence. Parrt species with larger brains relative t their bdy size lived lnger than species with smaller brains.
“This supprts the idea that in general larger brains make species mre flexible and allw them t live lnger,” Smeele said in a statement. “Fr example, if they run ut f their favrite fd, they culd learn t find smething new and thus survive.” He added, “All parrts have relatively large brain sizes cmpared t mst ther birds.”
