On July 2, 2022, at 4:11 p. m. — the exact mment 100 years ag that Samuelsn rse frm the water n skis behind his brther’ s bat — Lake City leaders released a life-sized brnze statue f Samuelsn at Ohuta Park and Beach n the shres f Lake Pepin.
Samuelsn first tried water skiing while riding his aquaplane, a large, flat bard pulled behind his brther’s bat. On June 28, 1922, he skied fr several yards this way. In the days that fllwed, Samuelsn tried different appraches. In mst f his attempts, he started with his skis level with r belw the waterline; but by the time his brther gt the bat ging, Samuelsn was sinking. Eventually, he tried raising the tips f the skis ut f the water while he leaned back - and it wrked. Then he began learning tricks n his skis, which drew crwds f nlkers t the shreline.
Sadly, his career as a water skier was shrt-lived. When he hurt his back in a cnstructin accident in 1927, he was frced t hang up his skis frever. He never patented his water skis, but s many peple had watched him ski that Samuelsn was eventually recgnized as the sprt’s inventr. Samuelsn died f cancer in 1977, but his legacy lives n. [1] Faced with an attempt by a new chatbt t imitate his wn sngs, the musician Nick Cave delivered a strng respnse: it was an abslutely hrrible attempt. He understd that AI was in its babyhd, but culd nly cnclude that the true hrrr might be that it will frever be in its babyhd. While a rbt might ne day be able t create a sng, he wrte, it wuld never grw beynd a kind f burlesque (滑稽的模仿).
[2] Fans f Cave and his band will agree that his music is inimitable, but that desn’t mean they wuld necessarily be able t tell the difference. A few days befre Cave’s remarks, experts were asked t distinguish between fur genuine artwrks and their AI imitatins. Their cnclusins were wrng five times ut f 12, and they were nly right in ne f the fur picture cmparisns.
[3] These are party games, but they pint t an unflding challenge that must be managed as a matter f urgency because, like it r nt, AI art is upn us. The arrival f ChatGPT which can imitate humans, might have increased general awareness f the challenge, but artists frm varius fields are already explring its ptential, with the dancer Wayne McGregr and Lndn’s Yung Vic Theatre amng thse wh have created AI-based wrks.
[4]A strngly-wrded reprt frm Cmmunicatins and Digital Cmmittee (CDC) issued a wake-up call t the gvernment, urging it t imprve its effrts in educating future generatins f tech experts, and tackling key regulatry challenges. These included reviewing refrms t intellectual prperty law, strengthening the rights f artists, and taking actin t supprt the creative industry in adapting t the disturbances caused by technlgical changes.
[5] The challenges f AI are bth philsphical, as Cave suggested, and practical. They will unfld ver the shrt and lng term. State-f-the-art creative industries have a key rle t play in shaping and explring the philsphical nes, but they must have the practical help they require t survive and be successful. They need it nw.
28. What can yu tell abut Nick Cave’s attitude t AI in paragraph 1?
A. Tlerant.B. Unclear.C. Skeptical.D. Indifferent.
29. Why are the examples given in paragraph 2?

[1] Antibitic resistance (抗生素耐药性) is a grwing threat t glbal health. In 2019, it caused ver 1.27 millin deaths wrldwide and it’s prjected that it may cntribute t ten millin deaths per year by 2050.
[2] Antibitics are used t treat bacterial infectins. But their misuse and veruse have cntributed t the emergence f bacteria which carry genes that enable them t resist the killing pwer f antibitics. This results in infectins that are much harder t treat. Antibitic resistance mainly spreads t humans thrugh plluted fd r water.
[3] But a recent study suggests this isn’t the nly way resistant bacteria can spread. Accrding t researchers frm China and the UK, air pllutin may als be spreading antibitic resistance. This is the first study t cmprehensively estimate the link between increased antibitic resistance and air pllutin glbally. They lked at 12 research studies cnducted acrss 116 cuntries. These studies estimated the amplificatin f antibitic resistant bacteria r genes in the atmsphere.
[4] The study lked specifically at the mst dangerus type f air pllutin - PM2.5. The study fund that antibitic resistance rse alngside increasing PM2.5 cncentratins (浓度) in the air. Every 10% rise in the cncentratin f PM2.5 was linked with a 1.1% glbal increase in antibitic resistance and 43,654 deaths frm its infectins. The highest levels f antibitic resistance were seen in nrth Africa and west Asia. These areas als had the mst severe PM2.5 pllutin. In cmparisn, Eurpe and Nrth America which had the lwest average levels fPM2.5 pllutin-als had lwer levels f antibitic resistance.
[5] It shws there’s a significant relatinship between air pllutin and antibitic resistance. Althugh the authrs didn’t shw evidence f causatin between the tw factrs, they did find antibitic resistance genes in the DNA f bacteria sequenced frm air samples. This indicates that PM2.5 culd facilitate the spread f antibitic resistant bacteria and genes via the air.
[6] Hwever, it’s still unclear what underlying mechanisms (机制) may allw antibitic resistance t spread in air pllutin. It will be imprtant fr future studies t investigate this. It will als be imprtant fr researchers t investigate the rle f ther factrs that can cntribute t antibitic resistance.
32. What is the study abut?
A. Hw resistant bacteria spread t humans.
B. Hw the PM2.5 cntributes t antibitic resistance.
C. The distributin f levels f antibitic resistance glbally.
D. The relatin between air pllutin and antibitic resistance.
33. What des the underlined wrd “amplificatin” in paragraph 3 mean?
A. Increase.B. Imprvement.C. Applicatin.D. Disappearance.
34. What can be learned frm the furth paragraph?
A. Nrth Africa is less plluted than Nrth America.
B. Antibitic resistance rises with the increase in PM2.5.
C. PM2.5 pllutin is the direct cause f antibitic resistance.
D. Air pllutin is the biggest cntributr t antibitic resistance.
35. What will the fllw-up study fcus n?
A. Hw t imprve the air quality.
B. Hw ther factrs cntribute t air pllutin.
C. Hw t stp the spread f antibitic resistance.
D. Hw antibitic resistance spreads in air pllutin.

Time and mney are life’s mst valuable resurces. One f the great laws f ecnmics is that time equals mney. The phrase “time is mney” is usually credited t Benjamin Franklin, wh used it in an essay (Advice t a Yung Tradesman, 1748). 36 He encuraged peple t treat time like mney. Time cannt be stred. One f the reasns we give little thught abut hw we use ur limited resurces is that we cannt save time. Time mves n whether we chse t spend it r nt. 39 Hwever, when peple are made aware f their mrtality (生命的有限), they wnder if they did make the mst f their lives.
In sum, time is anything but free. As a nn-renewable resurce, time is quite expensive. 40 They d their best t think f their time as unlimited, and unlimited gds have little value. Knwing that time is limited encurages us t ask hw we are using ur time. D we want t spend these precius mments n scial media r spend that time learning smething new? Skills and knwledge take time s the mre time yu spend n them, the mre yu imprve.
A. It cannt be bught at any price.
B. It means time is a valuable resurce.
C. Sme peple fail t realize that time is scarce.
D. The value f time varies frm persn t persn.
E. Thus, each f us faces the chice f hw t spend ur time.
F. Yu can’t bttle time and exchange it fr an bject r event.
G. Actually, time and mney are greatly different frm each ther.
