Orcas, als knwn as killer whales, are the largest members f the dlphin family. They hunt in schls f up t 40 individuals and are famus fr their grup attack n sea creatures. But rcas seldm attack humans.
Hwever, since 2020, grups f rcas have struck abut 700 bats ff the casts f Spain, Prtugal, France and Mrcc. They have damaged (损坏) at least seven bats. Experts nw believe what the rcas did is the result f bred teenage rcas having fun.
After bserving fifteen yung rcas, a research team, led by Alex Zerbini, fund that the rcas apprached the bats slwly. Once clse, they appeared t simply want t nudge their nses r heads against the rudder (船舵). Given that these yung rcas measure between 2.7 and 4.2 meters in length, just a gentle tuch was enugh t damage the rudders and even the bats. “As they play with the rudder, they dn’t understand that they can damage the rudder and will affect human beings. It’s mre playful than purpseful,” ne researcher said.
The researchers thught the teenage rcas’ bredm results frm the increase in the ppulatin f their primary fd surce — the bluefin tuna. With plenty f fd, they have a lt mre time n their hands. They guessed the actin may have been started by a curius individual attracted t the mving bat and may have inspired the thers t d the same.
Zerbini and his team give sme suggestins abut being far away frm rcas when pssible. While peple are in the areas where rcas ften appear, try t reduce the speed f the bats. Making banging sunds arund the bat may keep the whales away. They als suggest bat wners replace the smth rudder surface with special materials. This will make the bats less fun t “play” with.
“We dn’t want t see mre bats being damaged, and we dn’t want t see peple in truble,” Zerbini said. “But we als dn’t want t see rcas and ther animals being hurt. We have t remember that this is their hme, and we’re in the way.”

    A. Their unusual behavir.B. Their feeding habit.

“N!” That’s the wrd we hear in the latest cute baby vide that spreads quickly. But it’s nt the wrds that baby Orla says that have made this vide s ppular. It’s the fact that her prnunciatin clearly mimics that f Liverpl in Britain, which makes her sund mre like lcals in Liverpl.
This nw-famus baby may nly have been brn in 2022, but the different accents (口音) f babies have been investigated fr many years. In 2009 Prfessr Carline and her team cnducted a study. They cmpared French babies with German babies and fund that French babies tend t cry with a rising tne (声调), while German babies’ cries ften have a falling tne. They als fund American and French babies reflect syllables (音节) frm English and French separately, and that babies with parents wh speak a tnal language, like Mandarin, have a greater range f tnes in their crying.
S why des this happen? As children develp, they practice making the sunds f the language that they hear arund them. It’s natural that they pick up sunds and rhythms arund them. In fact, babies start t learn language frm their mther abut three mnths befre birth. Hwever, it’s nt just the language f immediate family and caregivers that has an impact. Carline’s studies shw that children are mre likely t learn the accent f their envirnment than that f a parent wh has an accent that is freign t that lcatin.
What the studies als shw is that babies are learning language thrugh practice, and that the mre time parents spend interacting with their children, the greater the pprtunity fr them t learn. While babies may nt be able t say many wrds, studies shw that they can understand many times the number f wrds that they can actually say. Giving babies expsure t a greater number f wrds allws them t better build their vcabulary.
    12. What des the underlined wrd “mimics” in paragraph 1 mean?
    A. Crrects.B. Develps.C. Cpies.D. Affects.
    13. Hw did Carline prve the different accents f babies?
    A. By making cmparisns.B. By presenting pinins.
    C. By ding a questinnaire survey.D. By describing an experience.
    14. What des paragraph 3 stress?
    A. Parents’ special methds f raising children.
    B. Several stages f kids’ language develpment.
    C. Hme language’s influence n the grwth f kids.
    D. Surrundings’ rle in children’s acquiring accents.
    15. What can we learn frm the last paragraph?
A Babies’ language ability depends n their ages.
    B. Babies can teach themselves a large vcabulary.
    C. Babies can speak mre wrds than they can make ut.
    D. Babies’ interactin with adults is helpful in learning wrds.
