    “When I was yung, I had s much energy and I lved building things. If I had an idea, I had t build it right nw using what I culd find arund me,” says Danish artist Thmas Damb.     Accrding t the US Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), six red wlf pups (幼崽) were fund in Nrth Carlina’s Alligatr River Natinal Wildlife Refuge last week. That’s great news fr endangered red wlves, and marks the first time these pups have been brn in the wild since 2020.
    Lng ag, red wlves lived all thrugh the US Sutheast. But as the wlves were hunted, and as mre and mre land was taken ver fr cities, rads and farms, the wlves began t die ut.
    In 1973, a new law called the Endangered Species Act was passed, which was designed t prtect animals that were in danger f dying ut, like red wlves. At the time, there were nly abut 17 red wlves remaining in the wild.14 f thse wlves were caught and fed by researchers t prtect them. Then, the FWS cnducted a prgram called the Red Wlf Recvery Prgram. But by 1980, red wlves were believed t have been extinct in the wild.
    Luckily the wlves did well under peple’s care, and their numbers cntinued t grw. Sn the FWS began releasing red wlves back int the wild. Thse wlves with tracking cllars spread ut, paired up, and began t have pups. By 2012, red wlf numbers had hit a new high pint f abut 120 wlves in the wild. The prgram’s success led t many ther prgrams aimed at bringing animals back frm the edge f extinctin.
