The San Dieg Z is celebrating an extreme rare event: the arrival f 41 Indian

use as pets. The species is listed as endangered, and researchers dn’t knw hw many remain in
    the wild.
After learning that it nly had female turtles, the z added a male t the habitat in 2001.
Staff have been waiting fr ver 20 years t see if the turtles wuld breed. This summer,
zkeepers fund fur nests in the enclsure. They hatched 11 turtles in August. Then, in
September, staff members fund 30 mre tiny turtles in a nest they hadn’t nticed. “They are kind
f cute,” said Kim Gray, head f the z.
The babies were mved t an indr habitat where they can be prtected and studied. The
z plans t give abut a half f the baby turtles t ther zs and aquariums that want t help

“Fr thusands f years, humans have raced t be the first t scale a peak, crss a frntier r
dcument a new species r landscape. Nw, in sme cases, we’re racing t be the last,” said The
    New Yrk Times’ Paige McClanahan.
In recent years, a grwing industry has been spurred n ( 刺 激 ) by climate change –

it” while 77 percent said they wuld reduce their water and energy use.

flck (蜂拥) int these areas in a panic t see them befre they’re gne, they in fact cntribute t
the increased greenhuse gas emissins and verturism, leading t their destructin.
Many schlars are calling last-chance turism a paradx ( 悖 论 ). Althugh turists may
acknwledge the brader risks and imprtance f climate change, it’s even mre imprtant t
cnnect the respnsibility f the individual turism t climate change.

    33. What des the underlined wrd “imperiled” in the third paragraph mst likely mean?
