(2024·海南)“Leftver rast ptates? There’s n such thing!” shuted peple n scial media when I shared a suggestin fr using up remaining ptates. This respnse is cmmn whenever I prpse ideas fr ingredients (食材) cnsidered “delicius” r a treat: wine, Easter eggs and cream. Simple cncepts such as refreshing rck-hard bread, freezing leftver chips r creating a “clear ut the fridge” tray bake gained millins f views — a much bigger audience than I wuld expect fr anything using tricky methds r fancy ingredients.
Use yur imaginatin and trust yurself, and yu’ll discver that leftvers can be a jy, nt a chre. And if yu find yu have the leftvers f a great big turkey but are fed up with the sight f it, r yu have mre cranberry sauce than yu culd pssibly eat alne, why nt try jining frces with neighbrs r friends? Nt s much bring a bttle as bring a laf, because a pst-Christmas leftvers sandwich is truly the best bite f the year. Isn’t it?

A.It teaches cking principles.B.It is a cmmunity prgramme.
C.It fcuses n fresh ingredients.D.It has gained great ppularity.

Unfrtunately, many f these plastic water bttles are being thrwn away. It can take centuries fr these bttles t break dwn.
Fr the last several years, three designers frm Imperial Cllege in Lndn, England, have been wrking t address the prblem f plastic bttles. The team’s gal is t “make packaging waste disappear”. T achieve that gal, these designers have develped a unique prduct called Oh.

Yu can als thrw the entire bubble in yur muth — n bttle needed! Oh’s skin is made frm seaweed (海草). It is nearly tasteless and easy fr the bdy t take in. If peple wuld rather nt eat it, hwever, the skin can be thrwn away. In less than a mnth, it will break dwn cmpletely.
The skin is very affrdable t make. First, a ball f water is frzen in a special chemical slutin (化学溶液). Next, it is put in a slutin made f brwn seaweed. Each bubble csts less than tw cents t make. It is, therefre, a far cheaper replacement fr plastic bttles.

But what if the persn is especially thirsty and wants mre? They are explring the idea f making bigger bubbles and als searching fr a way t cnnect several bubbles tgether. Anther prblem with the prduct has been hw t transprt it in packaging that is safe fr the envirnment but still prtects the bubbles frm breaking.
T find ut if peple are interested in Oh, the designers have plans in place t hand ut their bubbles next year at sprting events like marathns, as well as at entertainment sites. If Oh becmes ppular, peple acrss the cuntry may sn find themselves eating their water instead f drinking it!

(2024·湖北)UN climate talks this year in Bnn have cncluded with prgress n technical issues, but with bigger questins abut cutting carbn emissins (碳排放量) unreslved.
Delegates (代表) say they are pleased that the rule bk fr the Paris Climate Agreement is finally cming tgether. But these technical discussins tk place against the backgrund f a larger battle abut cal, il and gas. It means that next year’s cnference in Pland is set fr a majr shwdwn (最后的决战) n the future f fssil fuels.
This meeting, knwn as COP23, was tasked with clarifying cmplex peratinal issues arund the wrkings (工作方式,运动方式) f the Paris Climate Agreement. One f the mst imprtant elements was the develpment f a prcess that wuld help cuntries t review and increase their prmises t cut carbn. Fiji, hlding the presidency f this meeting, prpsed what’s being called the Talana Dialgue.
Over the next year, a series f discussins will take place t help cuntries lk at the prmises they have made under the Paris Pact (巴黎协定).
“A key part in Pland is this Talana Dialgue, t make sure it desn’t result in just a talk shw,” said Yamide Dagnet with the Wrld Resurces Institute. “In Pland, ministers say they will increase their actins, s that we end up with natinal plans that will be a much mre ambitius set f climate actins.”
Threatening ver these discussins in Bnn was the questin f cal, il and gas. US cal and nuclear cmpanies rganised a presentatin here arguing that fssil fuels shuld be a key part f the slutin t rising temperatures.

(2024·海南)Chinese researchers have revealed the anti-cancer characteristic f neutrphils (中性粒细胞) — a type f white bld cells—and the related mlecular regulatin mechanism, prviding new insights int cancer diagnsis and treatment. The discvery, made by researchers at the Shanghai Institute f Immunity and Infectin under the Chinese Academy f Sciences and Fudan University, was published in Cell n Tuesday.
Neutrphils are the mst abundant white bld cells in the human bdy. As the first line f defence against infectins, they play a key rle in anti-infectin immunity. The researchers cllected neutrphils frm 143 patients with 17 different types f cancer and analyzed them. They revealed that neutrphils can adpt at least 10 highly specialized and distinct functinal states related t inflammatin (炎症) , bld vessel frmatin and—mst excitingly—presenting antigens (抗体) t activate pwerful cancer-killing T cells.
“We were surprised t find such cmplexity and different rles within neutrphils, which have been ignred fr s lng,” said Zhang Xiaming, a researcher at the Institute. “What is especially remarkable is their newly discvered capacity t act as antigen-presenting cells, gathering T cells against cancer. In additin, the abundance f antigen-presenting neutrphils is assciated with imprved cnditin acrss many cancer types revealed in this study,” he said.
“This cmpletely changes hw we perceive neutrphils in the cntext f cancer,” said Ga Qiang, a prfessr at Fudan University. “Nw we knw we culd emply the diverse hidden identities f neutrphils t strengthen the effectiveness f immuntherapy (免疫疗法). We’re thrilled t further explre the ptential benefits f these newly uncvered mechanisms in clines.”
The study emphasizes the value f single-cell sequencing appraches t reveal new functinal dimensin even within seemingly well-understd immune cells. Tapping int the hidden ptential f neutrphils may prvide new insights int cancer diagnsis and treatment.
50.Hw was the anti-cancer functin f neutrphils discvered?
    A.By referring t previus research.
    B.By cllecting and analyzing data.
    C.By seeking guidance frm experts.
    D.By bserving patients with inflammatin.
    51.Which f the fllwing is a functin f neutrphils?
A.Getting tgether T cells when needed.
    B.Preventing the frmatin f antigens.
    C.Speeding up the bld flw.
    D.Distinguishing different types f cancer.
52.What’s Ga Qiang’s attitude twards the new research?

(2024·北京)In late June, tw cmpanies were given permits t sell chicken meat that has been grwn in a lab. The cmpanies say they will be serving the meat in restaurants this summer.
Unlike nrmal chicken meat, lab-grwn meat isn’t created by raising and killing chickens. Instead, it’s a meat prduct develped frm animal cells that are grw n in a lab. The prcess is called “cell-based” r “cultured” meat.
The prcess f creating lab-grwn meat is cmpletely different frm the nrmal meat raising prcess. Scientists have knwn fr a lng time hw t keep living cells alive and grw them in a lab. In this case, experts chse cells that can grw quickly and will have gd flavur. The first cells cme frm live animals. Then the cells are grwn inside large steel tanks, where they’re fed with everything they need t grw. In a few weeks, the cells grw int sheets f meat. The cmpanies then frm this meat int mre familiar shapes that can be cked and sld.
The cmpanies say that their meat is better fr the envirnment than meat frm animals. Raising animals fr fd uses huge amunts f land and water. It als creates a lt f pllutin. Raising animals fr fd create s abut 15% f the wrld’s greenhuse gases. That’s why cutting back n eating meat is ne f the easiest ways t fight climate change.
There are many cmpanies these days that fcus n making plant-based meat substitutes (替代物). But since lab-grwn meat is made frm animal cells, it is very hard t tell it apart frm actual meat. It lks, smells, and tastes like chicken.
Plls (民意调查) have shwn that many peple aren’t t interested in lab-grwn meat. Lts f peple believe that “it just sunds strange”. But Russel Phillips, a bilgist, suggests peple give it a try. He says that nce peple try the meat, they will be amazed. The cmmn respnse must be, “Oh, it tastes like chicken.”
But right nw, the meat is far mre expensive than meat frm animals. Nw that the cmpanies have been apprved, they have the huge challenge f figuring ut hw t make much mre meat far mre cheaply. It will prbably be a lng time befre yu’re able t buy lab-grwn chicken in stres.
54.T prduce lab-grwn meat, the cmpanies shuld________.
A.study hw t feed live animals.B.decide where t stre meat prducts.
C.add different flavurs t sheets f meat.D.select cells suitable fr prducing meat.
55.As fr prducing lab-grwn meat, Paragraph 4 is mainly abut its________.
    A.future.B.advantage.C.techniques.D.prcess.
56.What is Russel Phillips’ attitude tward lab-grwn meat?
    A.Dubtful.B.Wrried.C.Supprtive.D.Uninterested.
57.The lab-grwn meat still has a prblem with its________.
    A.quality.B.safety.C.price.D.taste.
