They gathered participants with clr blindness and required them t fill in a questinnaire (问卷) that measures hw resistant (抵制的) they are t new fds. The result suggested that clrblind peple are indeed less likely t be fd nephbic than nn-clrblind peple, because the limited clrs that clrblind peple can see reduce the signals that may raise freshness. safety r anxiety abut new fds.
S that is why clr affects fd cgnitin. The researchers believe that clrful fds tend t attract ur visual attentin mre, thus imprving ur cgnitive ability f fd. Des technlgy replace mre jbs than it creates? What is the balance between these tw things? Until nw, that has nt been cmpletely measured. Hwever, a new research prject led by MIT ecnmist David Autr has develped an answer, at least fr U. S. histry since 1940.
The study uses new methds t examine hw many jbs have been lst because f machine autmatin (自动化) and hw many jbs have been created thrugh augmentatin (扩增), in which technlgy creates new chances and tasks. In this research, Autr and his wrkmates studied abut 35,000 jbs, recrding hw they appear ver time. That led them t find that technlgy has replaced mre U. S. jbs than it has created, particularly since 1980.
"Clearly, frm 1980 t the present, there is a faster rate f autmatin and a slwer rate f augmentatin than in the frmer 40 years," says Autr. Frm 1940 t 1980, fr example, jbs like elevatr peratr and typesetter (排字工人) were getting autmated. But at the same time, mre wrkers filled rles such as shipping and receiving clerks,
buyers, department heads and industrial engineers. Frm 1980 t 2020, the number f machinists (机械工) drpped because f autmatin, while peratins and systems researchers enjyed grwth. Finally, the research suggests that the negative effects f autmatin n emplyment were mre than twice as great in the 1980-2020 perid as in the 1940-1980 perid. There was a mre psitive change in the effect f augmentatin n emplyment in 1980-2020 cmpared t 1940-1980.
Autmatin and augmentatin ften happen within the same industries. Within the same large cmpany, there may be fewer machinists but mre systems researchers. “Technlgy is really making a difference,” Autr says. “It may substitute sme expert knwledge r skills, but may add decisin-making tasks. It takes a while t figure them ut.”
    12.What des Autr’s study fcus n?
    A.The key t searching fr a jb.
B.The slutins t taking up new tasks.
    C.The influence f new technlgy n jbs.
    D.The applicatin f machines t industry.

    A.By listing figures.
    B.By raising questins.
    C.By telling stries.
    D.By giving examples.
14.What des the underlined wrd "substitute" in the last paragraph prbably mean?
    A.Depend n.
    B.Take the place f.
    C.Take cntrl f.
    D.Cncentrate n.
15.What is the best title fr the text?
A.Are Jbs Mre Challenging r Mre Friendly?
B.Are New Technlgies Jb Killers r Creatrs?
C.Which Is Better, Autmatin r Augmentatin?
