    Juleus Ghunta is a published children’s authr and award-winning pet. But grwing up, he culd barely read. Ghunta’s family lived in a rural part f Western Jamaica.     Sensry-based fd educatin given t 3—5-year-ld children in the kindergarten increases their willingness t chse vegetables and fruit, accrding t a new study frm the University f Eastern Finland.
    The researchers used the sensry-based fd educatin methd Sapere, which makes use f children's natural way f relying n all f the five senses when learning new things. In the Sapere methd, children are given an active rle arund fd, and they are encuraged t share their sensry experiences. Fr example, kindergartens can intrduce different vegetables and fruit t children. They can invlve children in baking and cking, and they can ffer children pprtunities t grw their wn vegetables in the kindergarten backyard. Fd-related themes can als be included in bks and games.
    The researchers cmpared children in different kindergarten grups. Sme were ffered sensry-based fd educatin, while thers weren't. Children were ffered a snack buffet cntaining different vegetables and fruit t chse frm, and the researchers tk phts f their plates t analyse their willingness t chse and eat these fd items.
    The findings shw that sensry-based fd educatin increased children's willingness t chse vegetables and fruit, especially amng children whse parents had a lwer educatinal backgrund.
