Activities:
Icebreaker Activity: "Tw Truths and a Lie Abut My Hbby"
Students share three statements abut their hbbies, tw true and ne false. The class guesses which is the lie.
Vide Clip Intrductin: Watch a shrt vide shwcasing diverse hbbies arund the wrld.
Discussin questins: "What hbbies did yu see? Hw d these hbbies bring jy t peple's lives?"
Vcabulary Preview: Intrduce key vcabulary related t hbbies (e.g., hbbyist, passinate, pursue, indulge) thrugh pictures and cntext clues.
Lessn 2: Reading fr Understanding
Objective: Develp reading cmprehensin skills and extract infrmatin abut hbbies.
Materials: Text - "Rck Music Meets the Erhu"
Activities:
Pre-reading Activity: Predict what the text might be abut based n the title and pictures.
Guided Reading:
Read in pairs r small grups, answering cmprehensin questins.
Highlight unfamiliar vcabulary and guess meanings frm cntext.
Vcabulary Enrichment: Review and clarify highlighted vcabulary, using synnyms and real-life examples.
Infrmatin Retrieval: Cmplete a graphic rganizer summarizing the main pints f the text, including the hbbyist's name, their hbby, challenges faced, and achievements.
Discussin: "Why d yu think the authr chse this particular stry t illustrate the imprtance f hbbies? Hw des it inspire yu?"
Lessn 3: Listening Cmprehensin
Objective: Imprve listening skills and understand the benefits f hbbies.
Materials: Audi Clip - "Back t Traditin" Interview
Activities:
Pre-listening Predictin: Based n the title, predict what the interview might be abut.
Listening fr Details: Listen t the interview twice, filling in a chart with infrmatin abut the interviewee's hbby, mtivatin, and hw it has impacted their life.
Listening fr Inference: In pairs, discuss what they can infer abut the interviewee's persnality and values based n their respnses.
Rle-Play: Students rle-play a similar interview, using their wn hbbies r thse f a famus persn.
Lessn 4: Grammar Fcus - There Be Structures
Objective: Practice and reinfrce the use f "there be" structures t describe hbbies and related scenes.
Activities:
Grammar Presentatin: Use visuals and examples t review and explain the use f "there be" structures.
Cntrlled Practice:
Fill-in-the-blank exercises describing varius hbby-related scenes.
Transfrm simple sentences int "there be" structures.
Guided Writing: Write a paragraph describing a hbby rm, using "there be" structures t highlight the items present.
Peer Review: Swap paragraphs, circle errrs in "there be" usage, and prvide cnstructive feedback.
Lessn 5: Speaking & Presenting Ideas
Objective: Develp speaking skills and present ideas n starting a new hbby club.
