When she saw the cat, she was very pleased as if it were my kid. She tk the cakes, a little uneasy, but she thanked me with a happy tne t her vice. That's because she had already bught sme fr us n her way back hme.
She was laughing, standing by the table. She put her hand n my shulder, tilting her face up fr me t kiss. At the same time, she was firing ff questins abut my trip, my children, my husband, my wrk and s n.
We sat ppsite each ther at the table that, alng with the meal she had already prepared fr me, almst filled her apartment. She bught it big—it can seat at least ten peple! But in six years, nt nce...
After meal, she tried t cme up with mre subjects f cnversatin, s that I wuldn't g t sn, leaving her alne with her desire fr me, her lnging t live with me, her daughter, frever. Meanwhile, the cat apprached us, which kept us busy fr a lng time—watching it, taking turns hlding it... My mther was the happiest she'd been since I gt hme. She seemed t have frgtten that I was ging t leave.

We sat silent a minute and lked at the nice, ht prridge (粥), creamy milk, and gd bread and butter, fr we were brught up like English children, and never drank tea r cffee, r ate anything but prridge fr ur breakfast.
“I wish we'd eaten it up，” I thught, fr I was rather a selfish child, and very hungry.
“May I g and help carry it t the pr, little children？” asked Beth, wh had the tenderest heart that ever beat under a spendy aprn.
“I can carry that little pt，” said little May, prudly giving the thing she lved best.
“And I shall take all the prridge，” I burst in, heartily ashamed f my first feeling.
“Yu shall put n yur things and help me, and when we cme back, we'll get smething t eat，” said Mther, beginning t pile ur breakfast int a big basket.
