The directr and crew were already there, setting up the scene. Then I talked with the directr and fund ut that he’ d changed the lines that I had stayed up until 1:00 AM memrizing the night befre. We rehearsed(排练) the scene several times, and then they excused me frm it while the crew cntinued setting up the lights. There have been many prblems with ur schls tday, the biggest f which is clsely related t ur culture. In general, ur culture, as represented in the media, gets excited by famus stars, and cnstantly stresses that it’s what yu have, nt what yu are, that cunts. Parents are encuraged t be away frm even very small children fr mst f the day. T many vters g fr pliticians wh wuld rather cut schl funding than get rid f tax cuts fr the wealthy. All cntribute greatly t the prblems f educating ur children.
Tday’s teachers have t deal with a culture that is vastly different frm that in the past. They reprt that there is, amng mre children than ever, a lack f mtivatin, with n drive t succeed r even try. The rle mdels that bys view in the media mstly cnsist f men in cmedies and ther shws wh are rude and ften extremely immature: self-centred verpaid athletes; men in mvies, televisin dramas, vide games, etc. wh are lst in vilence and pwer. As Lenard Sax wrte in Bys Adrift, “Teenage bys are lking fr mdels f mature adulthd. But we n lnger make any cllective effrt t prvide such mdels.” Girls are attacked nt nly with such annying images f males, but als with wmen wh are preccupied with appearance and are extremely materialistic.
In such a cultural envirnment, it is mre imprtant than ever t have respnsible, lving and caring parents wh have enugh time and mtivatin t devte themselves t their children and see it as their duty t serve as mdels fr them and raise them with high standards f hnesty and respnsibility alng with tending t their physical needs. They need t care enugh t see that their children are nt attacked with the garbage that cmes frm mvies, televisin and cmputer screens. In tday’s culture, they are basically alne in this effrt since, unfrtunately, s much is wrking against them.
Unless we, as a culture, face the truth abut urselves— that we are nt prviding things adequately fr a great many f ur children— the strm will cntinue t rage (肆虐) n ur educatin system.
32.Hw is Paragraph 1 mainly develped?
A.By analyzing causes.B.By shwing differences.
C.By describing a prcess.D.By using time rder.
33.What des tday’s culture prbably bring t the children?
A.Narrw access t entertainment.B.Pr understanding abilities.
C.Few materialistic mdels.D.Little desire fr success.
34.We can we infer frm the passage?
A.All pliticians are against schl funding.
B.Parents tday are less caring than in the past.
C.Girls are mre easily affected by the media than bys.
D.Tday’s culture in the media is misleading ur children.
35.Accrding t the text, what shuld parents d in tday’s culture?
A.Keep their children away frm cmputers.B.Find hnest mdels fr their children.
C.Devte themselves mre t their children.D.Help their children develp mtivatin.

As the saying ges, failure is the mther f success. Many f us were tld frm an early age that, at schl r in life, “yu learn frm yur mistakes.” Is this actually true?
The shrt answer is “yes”. 36 . Actually, learning frm ur mistakes is very hard, because we wuld nt like t fail. It desn’t feel gd. S we react t failure in emtinal ways, like giving up n a task easily, telling urselves we dn’t care whether we succeed, r finding fault with the task itself. This is self-prtective, accrding t Hallgeir Sjastad, a psychlgy prfessr. In his pinin, mst f us want t think f urselves as capable. 37 .
Frtunately there are strategies t help us vercme the emtinal barriers. 38 . Instead f asking “Why did I fail?”, we culd ask “Why did Sam fail?”, fr example. Multiple studies shw this way helps t sften ur negative emtinal reactins. Als it allws us t lk at failure mre bjectively.
39 . This led t better levels f mtivatin and academic success in the test grups — invlving bth adults and children — that were asked t give advice based n their wn failures. Prfessr Eskreis-Winkler fund that the satisfactin f helping thers “frces peple t engage with their experience and what they have learned”.
The writer Samuel Beckett nce said, “fail again, fail better.” But it nw seems that we shuld say, “fail again, fail smarter”. 40 , but by learning t vercme the emtinal barriers arund it, we may find the rad t success is a little easier t navigate(驾驭).
A.Everyne needs success
B.Hard wrk leads t success
C.Failure can be a teachable mment
D.Failure is an unavidable part f life
E.One f them is t adpt a third-persn view
F.Next, ffer advice t thers in the same psitin as us
