Tday, American English is in cmmn internatinal use. It is different frm British English in several ways, mstly in spelling and vcabulary. Sme American spellings were created by Nah Webster, wh made ne f America’s first dictinaries. He changed “ -re” spellings t“ -er ”, which is why________ is spelt _______ in American English. The Americans and the British als use different wrds fr everyday things. Fr example, Americans talk abut putting ______ in their cars and driving alng the ___________, whereas in the UK, peple put _________ in their cars and drive alng the ___________. Americans take the_________ t the tp flr f a building, but the British use the _____. In the US, they take the _________, but in the UK, peple travel n the _____________, Americans live in a(n) ___________ while the British live in a(n) _______. It’s nt as cnfusing as it seems: usually peple frm the tw cuntries can understand each ther frm the cntext. But that desn’t stp them having a friendly argument abut which wrd is the “right” ne!
