If he finds a waterslide needs wrk — fr example, if there are bumpy jints, which can hurt sliders — management will bring in a specialist repairer. “After that, I test it with water,” Pp says.
Then he mves n t the fun, prmtinal aspect. Smetimes he takes ver a leisure park and invites scial media influencers t enjy it t. In 2022, he tk 25 influencers t O’Gliss Park, an enrmus water park n the Atlantic cast.

We all ntice bright clrs. Peple wh chse t g eye-catching, whether they express themselves thrugh clthes r accessries (配饰), hear everything frm “N ne is ging t miss yu at the party” t “I wuld never have the curage t wear that.” But accrding t research, thse cmments may be bth accurate and expected.
Adam D. Pazda and Christpher A. Thrstensn (2019) examined hw we perceive peple at first impressin wh wear bright clrs. They specifically examined the effect f chrma (色度). They fund that targets, bth male and female, wh were wearing r surrunded by high-chrma clrs were perceived as mre pen and utging than in a lw-chrma setting. They cncluded that chrma is a variable f perceptin that can influence first impressins f persnality.
Drilling dwn further, they fund that high-chrma clrs strengthened viewer perspective f penness and extraversin (外向), but nt ther persnalities. These bservatins are imprtant because sme jb respnsibilities capitalize n sme f the persnalities inferred thrugh bright clrs.
Pazda and Thrstensn recgnize what jb seekers n dubt cnsider as they lk fr a career t match their persnal nature: in sme ccupatins, success is fueled by pssessing certain persnality qualities. They give examples f industries such as sales and marketing as well as custmer service as fields where extraverts thrive (繁荣). Accrdingly, applicants fr these psitins may be viewed mre favrably and judged as mre cmpetent if they wear highly chrmatic clthing.
Regarding the generality f their results, Pazda and Thrstensn nte that ne f the limitatins f their study was their use f participants living in the United States, which means their findings may nt predict results in ther cultures. They nte the pssibility that chrma may influence the perceptin f persnality differently in nn-Western cuntries, and that high-chrma clthing may be perceived as at dds with scial nrms in ther cultures. The practical takeaway, at least in the United States, appears t be that bright clrs, like the peacck’s tail, will get yu nticed. But depending n yur gals, cnsider tailring yur chrma t the circumstances, persnally and prfessinally.

At a cnference last week, I received an interesting piece f advice: “Assume yu are wrng.” The advice came frm Brian Nsek, a fellw psychlgy prfessr. He wasn’t bjecting t any particular claim I’d made — be was ffering a strategy fr pursuing better science, and fr encuraging thers t d the same.
T understand the cntext fr Nsek’s advice, we need t take a step back — t the nature f science itself. Despite what many f us learned in elementary schl, there is n single scientific methd. Just as scientific theries change, s d scientific methds.
Assuming yu are right might be a mtivating frce, sustaining the enrmus effrt that cnducting scientific wrk requires. But it als makes it easy t interpret criticisms as persnal attacks, and fr scientific arguments develp int persnal battles. Beginning, instead, frm the assumptin yu are wrng, a criticism is easier t be viewed as a cnstructive suggestin fr hw t be less wrng — a gal that yur critic prbably shares.
One wrry abut this apprach is that it culd be demralizing fr scientists. Striving t be less wrng might be a less effective mtivatin than the prmise f being right. Anther cncern is that a strategy that wrks well within science culd backfire when it cmes t cmmunicating science with the public. Withut an appreciatin fr hw science wrks, it’s easy t take disagreements as marks against science, when in fact they reflect sme f the very features f science that make it ur best apprach t reaching reliable cnclusins abut the wrld. Science is reliable because it respnds t evidence: as the quantity and quality f ur evidence imprves, ur theries can and shuld change, t.
Despite these wrries, I like Nsek’s suggestin because it builds in an awareness f ur limitatins and a readiness t accept the unknwn (“there are things I d nt knw!”) alng with a sense that we can d better (“there are things I d nt knw yet!”). It als builds in a sense f cmmunity — we’re all in the same bat when it cmes t falling shrt f getting things right.
12. Why did Nsek give the advice t the authr?
A T express different pinins n my claims.B. T advcate a better apprach t science.
C. T better my understanding f psychlgy.D. T encurage me t take up science.
13. What des the underlined wrd “demralizing” in paragraph 4 mean?
A. Discuraging.B. Ineffective.
C. Misleading.D. Unfair.
14. The strategy f “assuming yu are wrng” may cntribute t ________.
A. the enrmus effrts f scientists at wrkB. the reliability f ptential research results
C. the public’s passin fr scientific findingsD. the quantity f the evidence and theries
15. Hw des the authr sund in the text?
A. Frmal.B. Cnversatinal.
C. Authritative.D. Irnic.

Mary instructed Tina firmly but with unease, “Draw it the way I shwed yu.” As the lessn cntinued, dubt crept int Mary’s mind. Had the jy f creativity been vershadwed by the pressure t fit in? She scanned the rm, bserving her students’ faces – sme cncentrated, thers uncertain. Akila’s disinterest was clear and Tina’s imaginative drawing had been met with ridicule instead f praise.
After class, Mary sat dwn with Tina, her tne sftening, “Why did yu draw the sun with sunglasses and the trees with ice creams?” she asked gently.
Tina’s eyes sparkled with a tuch f rebellin (叛逆)-“I lve ice cream, and I thught the sun wuld lk cl with sunglasses. Why d we always have t draw like everyne else?”
Mary paused, her thughts racing. Tina’s drawings weren’t just curius —they were a windw int a wrld where imaginatin ruled, where rales culd be bent int delightful chas. Was she, by enfrcing a rigid style, killing that very creativity?
The next mrning, Mary walked int the classrm with a renewed sense f purpse.
