It's all abut ME!
“Me”.It's a small wrd with big meaning, and that meaning is as individual t each f us as the way we lk. Thrugh interviews, I was able t discver what “me” means t ther peple, and hw they have learnt t appreciate the beauty in themselves.
Jade,24,accunting manager
As a sng in Ugly Betty puts it, “It's a pretty persn's wrld”.I understand this mre than mst, as I have always been plainlking. I'm a girl wh'd lve t lk gd. Well, wh wuldn't? S, ever since I discvered selfie apps that culd remve my freckles, enlarge my eyes and even slim my jawline, I have becme addicted. I spend hurs every day editing my selfies, psting them and eagerly checking my phne a hundred times fr cmments. Each “like” bsts my cnfidence. Dad thinks I am a narcissist, but what I say is that my pictures aren't hurting anyne, s wh cares?
Dr Hart says:
Obsessive nline pht editing indicates a lack f selfcnfidence and a desire fr attentin. Hwever, the image Jade presents t btain the praise f thers is false. Peple wh pretend t be smene they are nt tend t misjudge themselves.
Anthny, 21, cllege student
I never really cared abut my appearance. That's why I culd never understand my sister, wh has 17 lipsticks and can't decide which ne t use every mrning. I nly used t have five identical pairs f trusers and five identical shirts. When I first mved int my drmitry at cllege, this made my rmmates quite cnfused as they saw me in the same clthes day after day. Last mnth they registered me fr a TV prgramme, A New Yu. It felt bizarre at first. I didn't like being reviewed frm head t te. But I was surprised at hw gd I lked after the makever!Fr the first time in my life I saw myself as a handsme and wellpresented yung man. At that mment, I perceived that external beauty isn't ttally wrthless. It can be an expressin f ur persnalities, helping us make a gd and psitive impressin n thers.
Dr Hart says:
It's true that inner beauty is very imprtant, but external beauty shuldn't be cmpletely verlked. It plays a part in the image we present t the wrld, and making an effrt with yur appearance can leave a psitive first impressin n thers and bst yur cnfidence.
Emma, 17, senir high schl student
Ever since I was little, I've been larger than ther girls. Fr a lng time, this really bthered me. Peple wuld stare at me because I was “big” and I hated the way I lked. My anxiety drve me t try every means pssible t lse weight, including dieting and weightlss pills, but this brught me nthing but pain and pr health. Althugh she's larger than mst ther mdels, she's really attractive and has the cnfidence t be herself—even in an industry full f beauty steretypes.

Hw anyne culd be frmed in such a way was beynd her cmprehensin.Yet there was s much melanchly and s much gentleness spread ver all this that she gradually adjusted t it.

He understd the mtin f the head. “But!” he said, as thugh hesitating whether t finish, “I am—I am deaf.”

He began t smile sadly.
“Yu suppse that was all that I was missing, d yu nt?Yes, I am deaf, that is the way I am made. It is hrrible, is it nt, next t yur exquisite beauty!”
There lay in the accents f the unfrtunate man s significant an awareness f his sadness that she had nt the strength t utter a syllable. In any case, he wuld nt have heard her. He cntinued:
“Never have I viewed my ugliness as at the present mment. When I cmpare myself t yu, I feel an immense pity fr myself, pr unfrtunate mnster that I am!Be hnest, t yu I must resemble sme savage creature. Yu, yu are a ray f sunshine, a drp f dew, a birdsng, whilst I am smething terrible, neither human nr beast. I dn't knw what I am, as I am carser, mre dwntrdden, and plainer than a pebble!”
Then he began t laugh, and that laugh was the mst heartbreaking sund in the wrld. He cntinued:
“Yes, I am deaf, but yu shall talk t me with yur hands as my master talks t me, and then I shall quickly knw yur wishes frm the mvement f yur lips, frm yur expressin.”
“Well!” she smiled, “Explain t me why yu rescued me.”
He watched her intently while she was speaking.
“I understand,” he replied. “Yu ask me why I rescued yu. Yu have frgtten an unfrtunate persn wh attempted t kidnap yu ne night, this same persn t whm yu shwed kindness when he was being punished. A drp f water and a little pity—that is mre than I can repay with my life. Yu have frgtten that unfrtunate sul, but he remembers it.”
She listened t him with prfund tenderness. A tear swam in the eye f Quasimd, but did nt fall. He seemed t make it a pint f hnur t keep it at bay.
