4. What is the passage mainly abut?A. Respnsibilities f adulthd.B. Hw t be independent.C. Sme views n the right t vte.D. The meaning f “the age f majrity”.
I can't wait t be 18. One reasn is that althugh I've been wrking ever since leaving schl, I wn't be vting in the next general electin. Why? Because I still wn't be ld enugh. Surely, if yu're ld enugh t earn a wage and pay taxes, yu shuld be allwed t have a say n hw the gvernment spends them! I've als been taking driving lessns, and in fact I will be taking my driving test n the very day I turn 18. My mum wrries abut me being behind the wheel. As an ambulance driver, she’s seen a lt f car accidents invlving teenagers and thinks the legal age fr getting a driving licence shuld be 21. But I think I'm already mature enugh understand that driving a car als means taking respnsibility fr my life and the lives f ther peple.
I celebrated my 18th birthday just befre I went t university. I expected t feel instantly different, as if I had clsed the dr n my childhd and stepped int a whle new adult wrld. But it wasn't like that. When I wke up the next day, there were still rules t bey and lessns t attend. In fact. the change has been mre subtle and gradual than I imagined. Instead f being the selfish teenager I used t be, I have begun t feel mre aware f ther peple and t develp a strnger sense f scial respnsibility. T give an example, I will be signing an rgan dnatin agreement this time tmrrw. This was a big decisin fr me and I made it withut asking my parents (althugh I knew they wuld apprve). Turning 18 als changed the way that sciety viewed me. I was really surprised when a bank cntacted me with a credit card ffer. Of curse. I wuld like t have mre freedm with mney and n dubt I will be getting a credit card at sme pint, but I currently dn’t have a steady incme, s getting a credit card might tempt me t spend mre mney than I have!
Peple say that 18 marks a new chapter in ur lives, and that we shuld becme mre independent. I used t believe this, but the reality fr me has been very different. I assumed I'd already have a well-paid jb and that I'd be mving int a rented apartment as sn as I turned 18, but hw wrng I was. My librarians salary means that I'll be living at hme with my parents fr a while lnger. Because I cntribute t the husehld bills and my cmmute t wrk is quite expensive, I find it hard t save any mney. I'll be starting a new jb next mnth, hwever, s maybe things will get easier. I knw I culd get a bank lan t pay the depsit n my very wn apartment, but I dn’t feel ready t make that kind f cmmitment, and I d like my mm's cking. I guess sme respnsibilities are mre abut attitude than age.
The Little Prince was written and illustrated by the French writer Antine de Saint-Exupéry during Wrld War Ⅱ. It is a children’s fantasy bk, but it is als enjyed by adults. It tells a stry abut a pilt wh has crashed in the desert. While he is trying t fix his aerplane, a little prince cmes t him. Visiting frm anther planet, the little prince recunts his adventures t the pilt, and the tw becme friends. The bk talks abut the imprtance f lking beneath the surface f things t uncver their real meanings. I like it because it is simple, and yet it really made me think a lt abut life and death, lve and respnsibility, friendship and lneliness. One f the mst memrable characters in the bk is a rse, which the little prince fell in lve with. I was really tuched by the line - “It’s the time yu spent n yur rse that makes yur rse s imprtant.” - because it shws hw we frm special bnds with thers by caring and taking respnsibility fr them. Persnally, I think this is a tuching bk that everyne shuld read, whatever their age.
