Finding nature thrugh art
Hands up, wh's rubbish at drawing? Ha! Bet yu're nt as bad as me.
Like mst during lckdwn, I missed being in familiar green city spaces.A quick snap(照片)n my phne never quite captured(拍摄)the mment. S I was excited t find"green sketching" sessins near my hme. This seemed a perfect Cvid-safe activity, even fr the untalented.
Our grup was all wmen, with sme having had previus artistic training. We were given art supplies and then set drawing exercises t help us get creative.
This type f art, "green sketching",was inspired by envirnmental scientist Dr Ali Fxn. Ali thught that spreading the jy f sketching culd be the key t making peple care abut nature instead f just wrdy re-prts. She launched her mvement,Bggy Ddles(沼泽涂鸦),in 2016.
The day we were there the frest was glrius -all gld, yellw and brwn. We spent the last hur trying t capture a frest scene. Hping nt t embarrass myself t much, I made a real effrt t catch the dark and brighter areas f the trunks(树干),their textures(纹理).I used an eraser t create the white shape f a silver tree in the distance. Mine lked mre like a winter scene - I hadn't managed t capture the autumn leaves r the branches. But when the five f us brught ur wrk tgether at the end,I wasn't t ashamed(感到羞愧):mine was nly just the wrst.
I had lved this chance fr a real and physical creative experience - I can't be the nly ne t feel sad at the prspect f a new lckdwn. Sketching calms a busy, anxius mind and trains the brain t ntice "little things" that spark jy and help strengthen us against life's challenges. While engaging with nature may well make us keener(更热衷于)n prtecting it–in Rbert Macfarlane's wrds, "We will nt save what we d nt lve – and we rarely lve what we cannt name r d nt see" - the benefits f sketching wrk the ther way rund.
