Greeting Greet the class.
Say: Gd mrning/afternn, Class. Nice t see yu. Review
1) Hmewrk check.
2)Play Arund and Arund t review sme f the key phrases frm the previus class.
Give directins that make use f the key phrases.
Individual students take turns listening t yur directins, answering yur questins
and mving arund the classrm. Give directins such as:
Teacher: Please walk alng the blackbard.
Please g t Student A's desk and then turn left/right.
Is this ruler lng? Is this ruler wide? Put yur pencil beside yur bk.
D yu live dwn the street? Teacher: Can I have an eraser?
Student A: Sure!
Teacher: Can I wear yur shes?
Student B: N, yu can't. N, yu may nt.

STEP 1: PRESENT
1) Instruct the students t lk at the pictures in Lessn 5.
Ask: Where are Danny and Jenny? (A: They are in the desert city-Dunhuung.)
Hw d yu knw they are in the desert? (A: Because there is a lt f sand in the
picture.)
Say: Danny and Jenny are riding n camels. Camels live in the desert.
2)Ask the students t read the title f the lessn 5 (Anther Stp alng the Silk Rad).
Ask: What is the Silk Rad? Is it a rad made f silk? (A: N, it's nt. It is a rute that
sme peple travelled n a lng time ag. It gets its name frm the silk trade.) Say:
Marc Pl is a famus persn wh travelled n the Silk Rad.
3)Ask: What des the wrd "stp"mean? (A: "Stp i the ppsite f“g”.)
Explain that stp has tw meanings. In this case, 'a stp" means a place where yu
stp and nt the ppsite f "g". Give the example f bus stp r train stp.
STEP 2: LISTEN
CLASS WORK: Let's D It! N. I
1)Play the auditape fr Lessn 5(Anther Stp alng the Silk Rud). The students
listen and cmplete the exercise. Check the answers as a class.
2)If time allws, play the auditape a secnd time and ask the class t read alud with
the tape.
STEP 3: BREAK IT DOWN
After yu've listened t the lessn, review what was learned.
Discuss: What is a "main stp"?
Can yu guess why Dunhuang is famus as the City f Sands?
What des "I can't believe it!"mean? What des "safe"mean?
What animal are Danny and Jenny riding n? Where d they meet the "camel man"?
What des "n their way"mean? Why is Danny afraid t ride the camel?
Why des Danny say, "Lk at me. I'm Marc Pl!"?

2)Check the answers as a class.

1) Play Secret Wrd t test the students' knwledge f key vcabulary r phrases, and
t test their listening skills.
2)Play the auditape fr Lessn 5 and instruct the students t make a signal when they
hear key vcabulary r phrases. T signal, students may put up a hand, stand up, make
a nise, r perfrm an actin

EXTENSION
GROUP/CLASS WORK: The Stry Game
Play The Stry Game t review the wrds and phrases frm this lessn. Yu can play
this game in grups r as a class. Each student takes a turn adding a sentence t the
stry, but each sentence they add shuld make use f the key wrds r phrases frm
this lessn(and previus lessns).

LANGUAGE NOTES
1. They take a tur arund the city.他们游览这座 城市。
take a tur arund.意为“参观,游览,观光”。 与 take a trip t.和 visit 同义。
例如:
We will take a tur arund Hainan next year.明年我 们将游览海南。
2. It's ne f the main stps n the Silk Rad.这是 丝绸之路上最重要的地方之一。
“ne f+名词复数”表示“··之一”。例如:One f the students will g t help
Lily with her Chinese.其中一名学生将要帮助莉莉学习中文。
Yu can chse ne f the bks.你可以选其中一本书。 3.It's famus as the City f
Sands.它以沙之城而 著名。
be famus as.意为“作为··而著名”,后一般跟人。be famus fr 表示“因为··
而著名”,后 跟事物。例如:
Edisn is famus as a great scientist.爱迪生作为一 个伟大的科学家而闻名于世。
Edisn is famus fr his inventin.爱迪生以他卓越 的发明而闻名于世。
4. Yu will nt fall ff.你不会摔下来的。
fall ff 意为“跌落,从··掉下来”。fall dwn 表示“摔倒,跌倒”。例如:
Lk! The girl is falling ff the bike.看!那个女孩 儿从自行车上摔下来了。
Jhn fell dwn n the snw.约翰跌倒在了雪地上。
5. But yu will be all right.但是你会很安全的。 all right 在句中意为“安全的”,
与 safe 同义。all right 表示“好,顺利,健康,正确”等意思。例如:
Everything is all right in ur schl.我们学校一切正 常。
Are yu feeling all right nw?你现在感觉还好吗? The by will be all right in a
week. 这个男孩儿一周 之后(病)就好了。
