With its upcming scientific research center in Uzbekistan, Zaha Hadid Architects has taken a lw-tech
apprach t maintaining a cmfrtable temperature. The eye-catching building will feature a clever passive cling
system inspired by traditinal lcal architecture.
Named after an imprtant 15th Century pet, authr and statesman, the Alisher Navi Internatinal Scientific

Its curvy supprting arches, which are being built frm lcal brick, are designed as hllw (空的) structures
with penings that draw the wind int the building. In the httest summer mnths, this system will be supprted by
sme electric fans t cl the air befre it enters the structure.
When it’s nt windy, the hllw arched structures will als naturally create a chimney (烟囱) effect, allwing
warmer air t escape thrugh the penings at the tp f each arch. This wrks because warm air naturally rises and
escapes, creating a pressure difference that in turn draws in cler air frm lwer levels and prmtes air cycle
thrughut the building. Recent Stirling Prize winner New Library, Magdalene Cllege als used the technique.
“These cling principles are enhanced by the day-night cycle, extracting warmer air while trapping cler air

building t warm the interirs.”
