On ne ccasin, he sptted what he thught was a magnificent jellyfish (牡蛎), nly t realize it was a plastic bag. “Yu can understand why a whale thinks a plastic bag is a jellyfish. It’s really disheartening.” Rss added, “I think it has gt wrse since lckdwn. There’s a general increase in the amunt f litter in the water. Peple dn’t realize what an impact it is having. I tend t d a lt f diving arund the sea lchs.”
One upsetting image shwed a lbster (龙虾) with plastic tied arund its claws (钳子), suggesting it had been caught and thrwn back int the water. Accrding t Rss, it’s necessary t weigh up the benefits f remving litter if it has a sea-creature living in it. He said, “The cean life des use litter as habitat. On this ccasin, I thught it was best t leave it, as it appeared that the lbster had made it its hme. During sme f my underwater explratins, I have seen things like cans, which have gathered bits and pieces. That is where it becmes a mral issue.”

On Nvember 20, 2004, the American psychlgist Daniel Kahneman published a paper that explred what has cme t be knwn as the “framing (框架) effect”. This effect demnstrates hw peple’s decisins can be influenced by the way infrmatin is presented t them. Kahneman’s experiment shwed that in many cases, the way a questin r prblem is presented can significantly affect the chices peple make.
The framing effect capitalizes n the fact that human thinking is nt always lgical. Peple can be influenced by hw chices are wrded rather than the actual cntent f the chices themselves. Fr example, peple tend t avid risk when a psitive presentatin is presented but seek risks when a negative presentatin is presented. If tw equal ptins are presented differently — ne in terms f ptential gains and the ther in terms f ptential lsses — peple’s preferences will shift accrdingly. In mre technical terms, the framing effect requires that peple’s chices be influenced by unimprtant aspects f the cntext, rather than the lgical cntent f the ptins. If peple fcus nly n the cntent, the framing effect wuld get smaller.
But a new study led by Tversky and Kahneman ffered an interesting change n this classic phenmenn. The key finding f the study was that when individuals were made aware f the framing effect and trained t recgnize it, their susceptibility t the effect decreased. Fr instance, participants wh were trained t identify framing tricks were less likely t be influenced by different presentatins f the same prblem.
In a fllw-up study with 200 university students, the researchers tried t get a better sense f hw training impacted their decisin-making prcesses. Did they becme mre analytical and careful in their chices? Did they learn t ignre unimprtant cntext? This happened sme f the time, but it wasn’t the main respnse. Mst frequently, the students reprted that they became mre dubtful f hw infrmatin was presented. Smehw, this dubt led t a mre lgical evaluatin f chices. Althugh the studies led by Tversky and Kahneman have limitatins and many questins remain, the ptential effects fr decisin-making and educatin are large.
8.What is the main purpse f Kahneman’s 2004 paper?
A.T explain why peple make pr decisins.
B.T study hw framing affects decisin-making.
C.T analyze the rle f lgic in decisin-making.
D.T cmpare different decisin-making methds.
9.Hw des this effect influence peple’s decisin-making?
A.By fcusing n lgical cntent.B.By enhancing their analytical skills.
C.By prviding mre accurate infrmatin.D.By changing the way chices are presented.
10.What did the fllw-up study fcus n?
A.The individual chices.B.The presentatin f ptins.
C.The decisin-making prcess.D.The size f the participant grups.
11.What is the authr’s attitude tward Tversky and Kahneman’s studies?
A.Unclear.B.Dismissive.C.Dubtful.D.Apprving.
Mst f us knw what it feels like t blush (脸红). The face becmes warm and red, and we experience self-cnscius emtins, such as embarrassment, shyness, shame, and pride. It is perhaps n wnder that Charles Darwin referred t it as“the mst special and the mst human f all expressins”. But why d we blush, and what are the mechanisms behind it?
T answer these questins, researchers investigated blushing by lking at the activated brain areas in an MRI scanner while measuring the cheek temperature — an indicatr f blushing. T cause a blushing respnse in a cntrlled experimental setting, the participants attended the lab fr tw separate sessins. During the first sessin, they were asked t sing difficult karake sngs, and in the secnd sessin, they watched recrdings f their wn singing while their brain activity and physilgical respnses were measured.
As expected, the researchers fund that participants blushed mre while watching their wn recrdings in cmparisn t ther participants’ recrdings. The related brain areas were smewhat surprising. Blushing was assciated with increased activity in the cerebellum, an area mst knwn fr its rle in mvement and crdinatin (协调). The researchers als fund increased activatin in the early visual areas, suggesting that the vides f their wn singing captured the blushing participants’ attentin the mst. Surprisingly, there was n activatin in areas traditinally knwn t be invlved in understanding the mental state f neself r thers. “Based n this, we cncluded that thinking abut thers’ thughts may nt be necessary fr blushing t ccur,” Niklic cncludes. “Blushing may be a part f the autmatic excitement yu feel when yu are expsed and there is smething that is relevant t the self.”
Blushing itself is very interesting because it’s universal. Hwever, there are sme peple wh develp a phbia f blushing, such as thse with scial anxiety disrder. When we understand the mechanisms f blushing, we can better target the bad feeling f blushing as well. Aside frm that, it’s interesting t knw mre abut blushing in general, since it happens very ften and is a cmmn part f ur everyday lives.
12.What was the main purpse f the tw separate sessins in the experiment?
A.T measure facial temperature during blushing.
B.T analyze the brain’s respnse t self-expsure.

D.T cause blushing by creating embarrassing situatins.
13.What can be inferred abut blushing in paragraph 3?
A.It can enhance persnal attentin.B.It may cnnect with self-expsure.
C.It activates visual areas in the brain.D.It arises frm minding thers’ thughts.
14.What des the underlined wrd “phbia” in the last paragraph mean?
A.Fear.B.Interest.C.Habit.D.Anger.
15.What des the text mainly talk abut?
A.Scial impacts f blushing.B.The methds t study blushing.
C.The hidden truth behind blushing.D.Effective ways t avid blushing.

Every year, the wrld needs mre energy. As cuntries develp and ppulatins grw, energy demand rises. Histrically, cal, il and gas have been primary surces, but their use causes 36 (pllute) and climate change.
Luckily, many cuntries are switching frm dirty fssil fuels t clean, green and renewable energy surces. Fssil fuels like cal and il release harmful gases, like carbn dixide, which add 37 glbal warming. Plus, these fuels will run ut eventually. Once 38 surce has been used up, anther must 39 (find), and finding new surces becmes mre difficult and expensive ver time. With n emissins r waste, renewable energy surces cause 40 (limit) damage t the envirnment. They are renewable because they can be 41 (natural) replaced and can therefre be cnsumed withut the risk f 42 (use) them up.
Can renewables really be the future f energy? Our mdern wrld has been built n fssil fuels, s it is tugh 43 (change) quickly. But China and thers use mre renewables. Given the prblems f climate change, there is little dubt 44 they will cntinue t grw. New battery technlgy, fr example, slves the prblem f bringing electricity frm 45 (distance) surces t cities.
故填a/ne。
故填be fund。

故填using。
“It is + 形容词 + t d sth.”
“there is little dubt that...” 故填that。
