Disastrus flds are becming mre and mre cmmn arund the wrld. The warming climate is leading t heavier rainfall, but as cities expand, and mre and mre land is under cncrete r paving, less water is absrbed and mre needs t be channelled away by strm drains and sewerage(雨污排水) systems. As they becme verwhelmed by the vlume f water, the risk f flash flding increases. Culd the way that cities are grwing be making things wrse? Culd we design cities in a different way t reduce
    the risk f flding?
Chinese landscape architect Yu Kngjian certainly thinks s. Early in 2013, he prpsed the cncept f“spnge (海绵) cities”, which are designed t sak up water-like a spnge - reducing the risk f sudden flds. Natural slutins are encuraged, using riverside parks and pnds t absrb fldwater. Appraches inspired by this have been taken by cities acrss the wrld. Auckland,in New Zealand, was named
the spngiest city in ne study. It has replaced the cncrete culverts (涵洞)arund the Oakley stream with
green banks and cnnected parks. This has reduced flding in the nearby residential areas as well as the amunt f assciated pllutants which used t be washed int the sea.
Auckland has taken a natural apprach, but a much mre high-tech methd can be seen inAmsterdam. The Dutch city has installed blue-green rfs n a number f buildings. These rfs have a layer f plants n the utside, and then layers beneath which cllect and stre rainwater. This water can be used by peple t water plants r wash tilets. Advanced sftware can even tell the rfs t release water ahead f upcming strms t maximize the system's ability t absrb rainwater.
Yu Kngjian describes the spnge city apprach as using Tai Chi with nature instead f bxing.
Questins have been raised as t whether a natural apprach is sufficient when faced with increased
rain fall glbally. What remains t be seen is whether increased scale and cmbinatin with mdern technlgy can help natural methds save many mre peple frm flding.
    28. What may cause the risk f city flding?
    A. The city size. B. The city design.
    C. The city lcatin. D. The city ppulatin.
    29. Which f the fllwing fail t serve as“spnge”?
    A. Riverside parks. B. Pnds.
    C. Blue-green rfs. D. Culverts.
    30. What can be inferred abut the spnge city apprach frm the last paragraph?
    A. It uses bxing with nature. B. It wrks well withut dubt.
    C. Its further functin needs testing. D. It is sufficient fr future flding.
    31. What's the main idea f the text?
    A. Hw spnge cities culd prevent flds.
    B. Why the cncept f“spnge cities” was prpsed.
    C. Why flds are becming mre and mre cmmn.
    D. Hw the natural apprach cmbines with high-tech methd.

the sample size was relatively small and nt representative f the entire ppulatin f yung adults wh use scial media.
This study highlights the imprtance f cnsidering verall scial media use and specific behavirs like pht edit ing when studying the relatinship between scial media and mental health utcmes.
