On April 26, 2003, he had a serious mountain climbing accident. He was caught under a large rock and he could not free his right arm. He waited for five days and he ran out of his water. He made a difficult decision to cut off half of his right arm. He climbed down the mountain to find help. After that he wrote a book about his experience.
