MEDICATIONS (药物) like Ozempic and Wegvy may be able t reduce bth chrnic and acute pain. This makes these types f drugs prmising safer alternatives t pain treatments such as piids, thugh the effect has yet t be demnstrated in humans.
Ozempic and Wegvy wrk by imitating a hrmne released after eating knwn as GLP-1, which reduces appetite and regulates bld sugar levels. While these medicatins are nly apprved fr treating besity and type 2 diabetes, studies have shwn that they have a surprisingly wide range f effects: they have shwn prmise fr helping t treat ther cnditins frm Alzheimer’s disease t mental health cnditins t addictin.
Previus research has shwn that animals experience less pain after eating. This prmpted Yng H Kim at Gachn University in Suth Krea and his clleagues t investigate whether GLP-1 culd be mediating (引起) this effect.
The researchers treated five mice with GLP-1 and then measured hw quickly the animals remved their paw frm a heated surface. They fund that, n average, mice kept their paw n the heated surface fr rughly 1.25 times as lng as they did when they weren’t treated with GLP-1. This wasn’t the case fr a separate grup f animals treated with salt water, suggesting the hrmne reduces sensitivity t pain.
They did further measurements f neural activity and fund that GLP-1 blcks a receptr (受体) in nerves called TRPV1, which is crucial fr reducing pain. Kim and his team identified the mlecule (分子) n GLP-1 that jins t this receptr and then treated six mice with a synthetic (合成的) versin f this mlecule called exendin 9-39.
On average, the animals tk abut 1. 25 times as lng t remve their paw frm a ht beam f light when treated with the mlecule than when they weren’t. This effect lasted fr up t 2 hurs after the mice received treatment.
Further study shwed that exendin 9-39 was effective at treating ther types f pain in mice, including nerve pain and chrnic pain. The mlecule als didn’t prduce any metablic effects, such as reducing bld sugar levels r cntrlling appetite. That is because it specially targets TRPV1, says Kim, wh presented these findings at an Octber meeting f the Sciety fr Neurscience in Chicag.
8. What diseases are Ozempic and Wegvy mainly used t treat?
A. Chrnic and acute pain. B. Obesity and type 2 diabetes.
C. Additin t drugs and nerve pain.D. Alzheimer’s disease and mental health cnditins.
9. What des the underlined wrd “prmpted” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A. Required.B. Frced.C. Discuraged.D. Mtivated.
10. Hw did GLP-1 affect the sense f pain in mice?
A. By reducing appetite and regulating bld sugar levels.
B. By preventing a receptr in nerves called TRPV1.
C. By separating the mlecules n GLP-1.
D. By prducing metablic effects.
11. Which is pssibly the mst suitable title fr this passage?
A. The Inspiratin frm GLP-1.
B. Measurements f neural activity.
C. Ptential Pain Treatments f Weight-lss Drugs.
D. A Synthetic Versin f Mlecule-Exendin 9-39.

根据第二段中的“While these medicatins are nly apprved fr treating besity and type 2 diabetes, studies have shwn that they have a surprisingly wide range f effects: they have shwn prmise fr helping t treat ther cnditins frm Alzheimer’s disease t mental health cnditins t addictin. (虽然这些药物仅被批准用于治疗肥胖和2型糖尿病,但研究表明它们有着令人惊讶的广泛效果:它们显示出了帮助治疗从阿尔茨海默病到心理健康问题乃至成瘾等多种其他疾病的潜力。)”可知,Ozempic和Wegvy被批准用于治疗肥胖和2型糖尿病,所以,Ozempic和Wegvy主要被用来治疗肥胖和2型糖尿病。故选B项。
【9题详解】
词句猜测题。根据划线单词前的“Previus research has shwn that animals experience less pain after eating. (先前的研究表明,动物在进食后会经历较少的疼痛。)”可知,动物进食后会有较少的疼痛,结合划线单词所在句中的“t investigate whether GLP-1 culd be mediating (引起) this effect. (去研究GLP-1是否可能是引起这种效果的因素。)”可知,此处指的是由于以前研究的发现激发了韩国加图立大学的Yng H Kim及其同事研究GLP-1是否可能是引起这种效果的因素,由此可知,划线单词的意思与“激发”意义相近。故选D项。
【10题详解】
细节理解题。根据第五段中的“They did further measurements f neural activity and fund that GLP-1 blcks a receptr (受体) in nerves called TRPV1, which is crucial fr reducing pain. (他们进一步测量了神经活动,发现GLP-1阻断了神经中称为TRPV1的受体,这一受体对于减少疼痛至关重要。)”可知,GLP-1通过阻止名为TRPV1的神经受体来减少疼痛敏感度。故选B项。
【11题详解】
主旨大意题。根据首段中的“MEDICATIONS (药物) like Ozempic and Wegvy may be able t reduce bth chrnic and acute pain. This makes these types f drugs prmising safer alternatives t pain treatments such as piids, thugh the effect has yet t be demnstrated in humans.

“Neurns (神经元) that fire tgether, wire tgether.” Perhaps yu have heard this ft-quted phrase f psychlgist Dnald Hebb and wndered what it means.
T find this ut, yu need t understand “neurplasticity“ first. Yur brain can change, and that prcess is called neurplasticity. Stimuli (刺激) cause a respnse and changes in yur brain. The stimuli can be external, such as taking up a new hbby, r internal, such as a glfer imagining the perfect putt (推杆) just befre actually stepping up and putting. Every time yur brain respnds t stimuli, an electrical impulse (脉冲) causes either the frmatin f a new synaptic (突触的) cnnectin r the strengthening f an existing cnnectin. This is what Hebb meant with his thery abut firing and wiring tgether. By cntrast, if yu stp ding an activity, the synaptic cnnectin can reduce thrugh a lack f use.
There is a healthy cmpetitin always ging n inside yur brain t maintain synaptic cnnectins. This is healthy because the cnnectins being used “win” and maintain their strength. Strng cnnectins make a task easier.
This cmpetitin helps explain why 10, 000 hurs f practice is presented as a path t expertise. Yu will have repeated an actin s ften and fr s lng that it simply becmes secnd nature and feels effrtless. In cmparisn, trying a task fr the first time, r picking up an ld task after a lng break, can feel challenging r energy-cnsuming at first. Why? Because the synaptic cnnectins dn’t exist r have weakened. Yu have t wrk harder t perfrm that task.
The gd news is that yur healthy brain-at any age-can learn, grw, and adapt t the changing wrld arund yu. Stated differently, the ld idea that yu peak by 40 r 45 and frm that pint nwards, yur mind and life g dwnhill is nt supprted by 30 years f neurscientific research revealing a very different stry abut yur brain’s cntinued grwth and develpment thrugh all ages. Simply put, yu can be mre adaptive and resilient (有复原力的) thrughut yur entire life if yu make the right chices and take psitive actins.
12. What des paragraph 2 mainly discuss?
