In addition to seeing wonderful films, one of the joys of coming to the Quad Cinema is to hang out in the area. The Quad Cinema is located right in the heart of Greenwich Village, perhaps the most charming and interesting neighborhood in the city. Here are some attractions we recommend, all within a comfortable walk from the Quad Cinema:
Washington Square Park
As one of the best-known of New York City's 1900 public parks, it is a landmark in the Manhattan neighborhood of Greenwich Village, as well as a meeting place and center for cultural activity. Come on a Sunday when it's most lively and festive.
New York University
It surrounds Washington Square. See the impressive st.Bob Library and visit the amazing bookstores. NYU is now considered one of the most powerful universities in the world.
Judson Memorial Church
Located in the south of Washington Square between Thompson Street and Sullivan Street, opposite Washington Square Park, this beautiful church was completed in 1892. The Judson Memorial Church is most famous for its vocal participation in social events.
Washington Mews
It is a hidden, private street in New York City between Fifth Avenue and University Place, just north of Washington Square Park. It was first developed as a mews(马厩街) that serviced horses from homes in the area. Since the 1950s, the former stables have served as housing, offices and other facilities for New York University.
Jefferson Market Courthouse
Built in 1833 as a market, it was later changed to a courthouse, and in the 1950s it was emptied and close to being destroyed. It was saved and turned into a library. Many consider it to be the most beautiful building in the village.

Christopher Thomas, 27, was a writer by night and a teacher by day when he noticed he was always tired and was losing weight fast. Diagnosed with diabetes(糖尿病), Thomas would need to inject himself with insulin(胰岛素)three times a day for the rest of his life or risk nerve damage, blindness, and even death. And if that weren’t bad enough, he had no health insurance.
After a month of feeling upset, Thomas decided he’d better find a way to fight back. He left Canton, Michigan for New York, got a job waiting tables, nicknamed himself the Diabetic Rockstar, and created diabeticrockstar.com, a free online community for diabetics and their loved ones—a place where over 1,100 people share personal stories, information, and resources.
Jason Swencki’s son Kody, was diagnosed with type diabetes at six. Father and son visit the online children’s forums together most evenings. “Kody gets so excited, writing to kids from all over,” says Swencki, one of the site’s volunteers. “They know what he’s going through, so he doesn’t feel alone.”
Kody is anything but alone: Diabetes is now the seventh leading cause of death in the United States, with 24 million diagnosed cases. And more people are being diagnosed at younger ages.
These days, Thomas’s main focus is his charity, Fight It, which provides medicines and supplies to people—225 to date—who can’t afford a diabetic’s huge expenses. Fight-it.org has raised about $23,000—in products and in cash. In May, Thomas will hold the first annual Diabetic Rockstar Festival in the Caribbean.
Even with a staff of 22 volunteers, Thomas often devotes up to 50 hours a week to his cause, while still doing his full-time job waiting tables. “Of the diabetes charities out there, most are putting money into finding a cure,” says Bentley Gubar, one of Rockstar’s original members. “But Christopher is the only person I know saying people need help now.”
4. From the passage, what do we know about Christopher Thomas?
A. He needs to go to the doctor every day.
B. He studies the leading cause of diabetes.
C. He has a positive attitude to this disease.
D. He encourages diabetics by writing articles.
5. What was the purpose of the Diabeitcrockstar.com?
A. Diabetics can communicate with each other.
B. It helps volunteers find jobs.
C. Children can amuse themselves.
D. Rock stars can share resources.
6. What can we learn about Fight It?
A. It helps the diabetics in financial difficulties.
B. It organizes parties for volunteer once a year.
C. It offers less expensive medicine to diabetics.
D. It owns a well-known medical website.
7. What can we know about Thomas in the last paragraph?
A. He works full-time in a diabetes charity.
B. He employs 22 people for his website.
C. He helps diabetics in his own way.
D. Thomas tries to find a cure for diabetes.

Batteries can power anything from small sensors to large systems. While scientists are finding ways to make them smaller but even more powerful, problems can arise when these batteries are much larger and heavier than the devices themselves. University of Missouri(MU) researchers are developing a nuclear energy source that is smaller, lighter and more efficient.
“To provide enough power,we need certain methods with high energy density(密度)", said Jae Kwon, assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering at MU. ''The radioisotope(放射性同位素)battery can provide power density that is much higher than chemical batteries ."
Kwon and his research team have been working on building a small nuclear battery, presently the size and thickness of a penny, intended to power various micro systems(MNEMS). Although nuclear batteries can cause concerns, Kwon said they are safe.
“People hear the word ‘nuclear' and think of something very dangerous." he said. "However, nuclear power sources have already been safely powering a variety of devices, such as pace-makers, space satellites and underwater systems."
His new idea is not only in the battery's size, but also in its semiconductor(半导体). Kwon's battery uses a liquid semi conduct or rather than a solid semiconductor.
“The key part of using a radioactive battery is that when you harvest the energy, part of the radiation energy can damage the lattice structure(晶体结构)of the solid semiconductor." Kwon said, “By using a liquid semiconductor, we believe we can minimize that problem."
Together with J. David Robertson, chemistry professor and associate director of the MU Research Reactor, Kwon is working to build and test the battery. In the future, they hope to increase the battery's power, shrink its size and try with various other materials. Kwon said that battery could be thinner than the thickness of human hair.
8. Which of the following is true of Jae Kwon?
A. He teaches chemistry at MU.
B. He developed a chemical battery.
C. He is working on a nuclear energy source.
D. He made a breakthrough in computer engineering.
9. Jae Kwon gave examples in Paragraph 4 _____.
A. to show chemical batteries are widely applied.
B. to introduce nuclear batteries can be safely used.
C. to describe a nuclcar powered system
D. to introduce various energy sources.
10. Liquid semiconductor is used to _____
A. get rid of the radioactive waste B. test the power of nuclear batteries
C. decrease the size of nuclear batteries D. reduce the damage to lattice structure
11. The text is most probably a _____.
A. science news report B. book review
C. newspaper ad D. science fiction story
C 9. B 10. D 11. A

由文章第三段中的“Kwon and his research team have been working on building a small nuclear battery…” 故选项C(他正在致力于研发核能资源。)
第四段最后一句中such as后有三个举例,这三个举例是为了证明例子前的观点:nuclear power sources have already been safely powering a variety of devices(核能资源已经安全地用来给很多设备供电。)。故选项B(介绍核能电池能被安全地使用)切题。
由文章第六段中最后一句“By using a liquid semiconductor, we believe we can minimize that problem.” 而“that problem”指代上一句中的“The key part of using a radioactive battery is that when you harvest the energy, part of the radiation energy can damage the lattice structure(晶体结构)of the solid semiconductor.(使用放射性电池最关键的部分是当你获得能量的同时,一部分放射能源能毁坏固体半导体的晶体结构。)”。故选项D(减少对晶体结构的损坏。)
故选A。

Chinese consumers' crazy appetite for luxury goods and services appears unstoppable, with just 2 percent of the Chinese population responsible for one-third of the world's luxury items.
As China's economic miracle develops, the market opportunities for all sorts of luxury goods and services are increasing.Luxury consumption in China now extends ways beyond well-known car, clothing and jewelry brands. For example, the luxury jet market in China is the fastest-growing in the world, even outstripping that of the United States, with a market share of 25 percent. This trend appears to continue, with 20 to 30 percent growth expected in China, compared with only 2 to3 percent in the US.But more importantly,China's luxury jet market growth represents a major development in the private consumption of luxury items.
China's high-quality red wine market also provides evidence of the growth in private consumption of luxury goods. In 2013,China became the largest market for red wine in the world, even overtaking France, with l.86 billion bottles consumed in China last year.Over the past five years,China's red wine consumption has grown 136 percent.
According to my ongoing consumer research in this area while working at the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing, public consumption of such expensive global luxury brands such as Prada and Armani is easily explained by the desire to "gain face" and publicly display social climbing through material possessions. On the other hand,it is "self-reward" that lies behind consumer motivation in this area.Chinese consumers who have experienced rapid financial and economic gains appear particularly prone to the need to reward themselves for their success. But this has little to do with "gaining face" and impressing others and much more to do with the need for personal contentment.
Finally, the growth in private luxury consumption in China is set to continue in part due to the maturity of the Chinese consumer and advancement of Chinese consumer culture generally.
12. What do you think the author would most probably be?
A. A news reporter. B. An accountant.
C. A professor. D. A conductor.
13. The underlined word "outstripping" in Paragraph 2 probably means" ".
A. falling far behind of B. going out of
C. going far ahead of D. keeping pace with
14. What can we learn from Paragraphs 2 and 3?
A. China's luxury jet market growth is only 2% to 3%.
B. France was once the largest market for red wine in the world before 2013
C. The luxury jet market in the US shares 25%of the jet consumption in the world.
D. China's red wine consumption has increased to 1.86 billion bottles since 2013.
15. What can be the best title for the passage?
A. Future Private Luxury Consumption in China
B. Chinese Appetite for Luxury Goods and Services
C. The Potential Luxury Jet Market in China
D. The Maturity of the Chinese Consumers

选项G中的“Every person you meet”与上句中的meet people呼应,选项G中的“have a role in your life”与下句中的各种影响呼应。
选项D中的“show the way”与下句中的helping people see a vision for themselves 呼应,并且还与第三个空格后的Offer them support and motivation呼应,所以选项D可以作为本段主旨句,故选D。
选项E中的instead(取而代之的是)符合上下逻辑关系,且选项E中的guide them to the source of their own 与下句中的find their own way呼应,故选E。
且选项A中的treat everyone with dignity与本段中心句Never look down on someone(不要小看别人)呼应。故选A。

故选A。
D

根据下文cooperation plays an important part in getting you out of trouble可知应用一般现在时,故were改为are。
so…that… 故把too改成so。
固定句式there is no doubt that… 故it改为there。
turn to sb. for help"向某人求助",是固定表达。故去掉the。
固定短语have difficulty (in) doing "做……
固定短语get on/along well with "与……
故把with改为to。
