When French students go to school, they have to leave one of their most prized possessions at home — their smartphones. French lawmakers passed a law on July 31, 2018, banning students 15 and under from bringing smartphones and tablets to school, or at least requiring they be turned off at school. Officials in support of the new rule described the policy as a way to protect children from addictive habits and to safeguard the sanctity of the classroom.
“We know there is a phenomenon of screen addiction,” education minister Jean-Michel Blanquer said. “Our main role is to protect students. It is a fundamental role of education, and this law allows it.”
The law, however, makes exceptions for educational use, after-school activities and for students with disabilities. French high schools can choose to force a less-strict ban on Internet- connected devices.
Even before the new policy was voted in, French law carried out in 2010 prohibited students from using their phones while class was in session. But during the 2017 French presidential election, Emmanuel Macron promised to force a school ban on phones entirely.
This isn’t the first French law designed to beat back the influences of digital technology in everyday life. In 2017 the government passed a law requiring French companies to draft rules that limited work emails and work-related technology outside the office. Referred to as the “right to disconnect,” French officials said the law aimed to reduce job-related stress and prevent employee burnout.
“Employees physically leave the office, but they do not leave their work. They remain attached by a kind of electronic tie,” said Benoît Hamon, former French education minister. “The texts, the messages, the emails: they control the life of the individual to the point where he or she eventually breaks down.”
4. What’s the purpose of the law passed on July 31, 2018?
A. To improve the eyesight of school students.
B. To reduce the heavy burden of primary school students.
C. To prevent students getting addicted to electronic devices.
D. To help students use the mobile phones properly at schools.
5. What can we learn from the text?
A. Disabled students have no ability to use electronic devices.
B. President Macron is in favor of smartphone use in school.
C. The “right to disconnect” aims to help employees with their work.
D. Primary students are facing stricter banning than high school students.
6. The French government passed a law in 2017 because ________.
A. work-related technology occupied too much of individual life
B. some officials found it was a waste of time to use digital technology
C. employees had no time to use their electronic devices after work
D. employees had the ability to finish their work entirely in the office
7. Which column of a newspaper may the passage come from?
A. Science B. Law
C. Health D. Human and society
C 5. D 6. A 7. D

C
Until the 1990s coffee was rarely served in China except at luxury hotels aimed at foreigners. When Starbucks opened its first shop there in 1999, it was far from clear that the country’s tea-drinkers would take to such a different and usually more costly source of caffeine. Starbucks tried to attract customers to coffee’s bitter taste by promoting milk and sugar-heavy concoctions(调和) such as Frappuccinos.
But coffee has become fashionable among the middle class in China. Starbucks now has about 3, 800 shops in China more than in any other country outside America. Statista, a business-intelligence portal(门户网站), says the roast coffee market in China is growing by more than10 %year. Starbucks and its rivals see big opportunities for expanding there.
So too, however, do home-grown competitors. A major new presence is Luckin Coffee, Beijing- based chain. Since its founding less than two years ago, it has opened more than 2,300 shops. On May 17th Luckin’s initial public offering on the Nasdaq stockmarket raised more than $570m,giving it a value of about $4bn.
Luckin’s remarkable growth is sign of change. No longer do Chinese consumers see coffee as such a luxury. Most of Luckin’s shops are merely kiosks where busy white-collar workers pick up their drinks, having ordered them online. Super-fast delivery can also be arranged through the company’s app. Independent coffee shops are springing up. The growth is striking considering the country’s reputation for its tea-drinking culture where many residents like to relax in teahouses sipping tea served gracefully.
But the two markets are different. The teahouses tend to cater to older people who like to spend long hours playing mahjong and gossiping. At the coffee shops it is rare to see anyone over 40. Young people use them for socialising, but much of their interaction is online -sharing photos of their drinks and of the coffee-making equipment. An option on the Chinese rating app Dianping allows users to search for wanghong ("internet viral") coffee houses.
8. How did Starbucks try to appeal to Chinese consumers?
A. By reducing the price slightly. B. By introducing the benefits of coffee.
C. By making coffee taste not so bitter. D. By promoting its products effectively.
9. What does Luckin Coffee’s growth suggest?
A. People tend to like coffee’s bitter taste.
B. People’s views on coffee-drinking have changed.
C. People in China can afford coffee now.
D. Tea is no longer part of Chinese culture.
10. What does the underlined word “kiosks” in paragraph 4 mean?
A. Places where people can drink beer.
B. Restaurants where food can be taken away.
C. Shops aimed at people who like drinking.
D. Small shops where drinks are sold.
11. What is the best title for the text?
A. Coffee is taking off in China.
B. Tea-drinking is not popular.
C. Coffee or tea, which do you prefer?
D. Coffee has become people’s favorite in China.
C 9. B 10. D 11. A

Most of Luckin’s shops are merely kiosks where busy white-collar workers pick up their drinks, having ordered them online可知,Luckin的大多数商店只是一个售货亭,忙碌的白领们在网上订购饮料后,在那里取起饮料。
But coffee has become fashionable among the middle class in China. Starbucks now has about 3, 800 shops in China more than in any other country outside America. Statista, a business-intelligence portal, says the roast coffee market in China is growing by more than10 %year. Starbucks and its rivals see big opportunities for expanding there.(但在中国的中产阶级中,咖啡已经成为一种时尚。 故选A。
如文中常用refer to,be called或that’s to say,such as等。
② 逻辑猜词可以根据同义词、反义词、因果关系词等猜测词义,例如,similarly,the same as,but,however,while,on the other hand,since ,because等,所猜词与这些提示词前/后面部分的含义一样、相反或是前因后果。
Most of Luckin’s shops are merely kiosks where busy white-collar workers pick up their drinks, having ordered them online可知Luckin的大多数商店只是一个售货亭,忙碌的白领们在网上订购饮料后,在那里取起饮料。

China became the first country to clone a monkey using non-reproductive cells, reducing the need to keep lab monkeys and paving the way for more accurate, effective, and affordable animal tests for new drugs.
By December of 2017, Chinese scientists had created two clone macaques named "Zhong Zhong" and "Hua Hua" by nuclear transferring of somatic cells -- any cell in the organism other than reproductive cells. This was the similar technology used to create the famous clone sheep Dolly in 1996.
Tetra, a rhesus monkey born in 1999, is the world’s first ever-cloned monkey, but it was done using a simpler method called embryo splitting, but it could only generate four cloned offspring at a time and cannot be genetically modified to suit experimental needs, said Pu Muming, an academician at the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the director of Institute of Neuroscience, CAS. "Cloning a monkey using somatic cells has been a world-class challenge because it is a primate(灵长类)that shares its genetic makeup, therefore all of its complexity, with humans." Pu Muming said.
"For drug and other lab tests, scientists have to purchase monkeys from all over the world, which is costly, bad for the environment and produces inaccurate results because each monkey might have different genes, " Pu said. "By cloning monkeys using somatic cells, we can mass produce large numbers of genetically same offspring in a short time, and even change their genes to suit our needs," he added. "This can save time, cut down experiment costs, and produce more accurate results, leading to more effective medicine."
Sun Qiang, director of the non-human primate research facility at the institute, said most of the drug trials are currently done on lab mice. However, drugs that work on mice might not work or even have severe side effects on humans because the two species are so different. "Monkeys and Humans are both primates, so they are much closely related and testing on Monkeys is supposed to be as effective as testing on humans," he said. This is especially useful in testing drugs for neural diseases such as Parkinson’s disease, metabolic and immune system disease, and tumor, he added. "This achievement will help China lead the world research in an international science project related to neural(神经的)mapping of primate brains,”he said. However, bio labs from the United States, Japan, and European countries are also very able, and they will quickly catch up to China after the monkey cloning technology is made public, Sun added. " This means we have to innovate continuously and work extra harder this year to stay ahead," he said.
12. What is special about China's cloning monkey?
A. It transferred cells in the lab. B. It creates two monkeys at a time.
C. It adopts a method of embryo splitting. D. It uses non-reproductive cells.
13. Why do scientists clone monkeys?
A. To keep monkeys from being endangered. B. To test new medicines on them.
C. To find the side effects of medicines. D. To find a cure for mental diseases.
14. Which of the following is True?
A. Cloning a monkey using somatic cells is easy.
B. Scientists have easy access to monkeys.
C. Using somatic cells is more expensive to clone.
D. Using somatic cells to clone monkeys makes it possible to produce more effective medicine.
15. What Sun said in the last paragraph suggests__________.
A. they are determined to catch up to America
B. they try to avoid competition from other countries
C. they aren't satisfied with what they have achieved
D. they have to keep the monkey-cloning technology a secret
D 13. B 14. D 15. C

Yesterday, I read article about the Hongkong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, the longer sea-crossing bridge in the world. It’s 55 kilometers long, which lifespan(使用寿命) is set at 120 years. And it can stand heavy storm and earthquakes. What’s more, the travel time among Hongkong and Zhuhai is cut from 3 hours to just 30 minutes.
After reading the article, I am wildly excited. In my opinion, drive a car on the bridge was an enjoyable experience. Besides, my dad didn’t agree with me, because she was not skillful at switching freely between Chinese driving. Though I can understand him now, but I do hope someday we can drive on the bridge.
longer →longest
which →whose
storm→storms
among→between
am→was
drive→driving
Besides→However
she→he
把but去掉
此处指两者之间,所以用between,故把among改成between。
此处because引导的原因状语从句中的主语要用代词he来代指my dad,故把she改成he。

Under the leadership of the Communist Party, the people’s Republic of China was founded on October 1st,, 1949 and since then, varieties of grand ceremonies have been held annually to memorize the founding of New China. Lots of large-scale activities are held nationwide to showcase the nation’s socioeconomic accomplishments and signify the passing down of China’s honorable traditions to future generations. What impress me most is that the Military Review focuses on demonstrating the historic achievements and changes. Other activities like flag-raising ceremonies, dance and song shows, firework displays and painting exhibitions are to show that how our Party inspired us to picture a glorious future and make our Chinese Dream realized.

Dear Terry,
I am more than happy to know you are extremely interested in Chinese National Day, also a public national holiday and I am willing to share some information with you.
Welcome to China!
Looking forward to your early reply.
