Dear Jackie,
I am terribly sorry to know that you are in bad health because of lack of proper physical exercise. So I am writing to convey my concerns and express my suggestions about physical exercise.
It’s generally acknowledged that health comes first for everyone. So as a student, you should attach great importance to exercise. It can benefit us greatly. It not only can refresh the body and keep our mind clear, but contribute to fast and deep sleep. What’s more, we can finish our tasks effectively after exercise.
What is the most important is how we can balance exercise and study. As far as I’m concerned, no matter how busy you are, you had better spare at least one hour every day to do various exercise, such as jogging, skipping and playing ball games…
I hope my e-mail will help you and look forward to your recovery soon.
Yours,
Li Hua

语篇出处:报刊Teens’ space (2019年12辑)(How the gift I wanted least became the one I needed most)
Wonder: to think about sth. that you are not sure about and try to guess what is true, what will happen.
She wouldn’t know much about baseball.
Reason: to form a particular judgment about a situation after carefully considering the facts.
C。Pond: a small area of fresh water that is smaller than a lake.

- D 根据上文得知,“我”在mow the lawn of Mrs. Long, 而attend to意思是“照料;照管;护理”,所以选择D。
- A “当我把礼物从她手上拿过来时...” lift: to move something or someone upwards into the air.
Set my mind dancing with new possibilities
Wait: an amount of time waited
Flat: not very deep, thick or high.

Text 1
M: Is this yours?
W: Yeah. Do you need it?
M: Uh, yeah. Can I use it to fill out this job application? I accidentally left mine in the car.
Text 2
W: Hi, you’ve reached Holly Taylor. I’m not here right now, but if you leave your name and number, I’ll call you back as soon as I can. Thanks!(Beep)
M: Hey, it’s James. I just wanted to see if you’re going to Annie’s party. Call me back. Bye!
Text 3
M: Here you go… tickets for next Friday’s basketball game. I got great seats.
W: Oh, no! I thought you said the game was on Saturday. I already bought us the tickets for the baseball game that day.
M: Oops. I thought the baseball game was on Thursday.
Text 4
W: I’m so tired! All I want to do is sit on the sofa and watch TV for the rest of the night.
M: Don’t you remember? We have plans to go out to dinner with my parents tonight. It’s been planned for a month!
Text 5
M: How were grades last term?
W: I did well in everything, except French. Learning language is a struggle for me. Maybe I should get a tutor.
M: You spend too much time studying alone. Why don’t you join a study group? It’s been very beneficial for me.
Text 6
W: Did you grow all of these vegetables yourself?
M: Yeah, aren’t they delicious?
W: I can’t believe your yard produces so much. It isn’t very big.
M: I know. This summer, I learned a gardening trick that helps me grow more food.
W: Oh, really? What is it?
M: Well, for years, I had been planting seeds in rows or squares, but I learned that if I plant them in triangular shapes, you don’t waste much room.
W: I don’t know what you mean.
M: How about this…After we finish lunch, we’ll go in the backyard and I’ll show you. It’ll make sense then.
Text 7
M: Did you spend all weekend writing the essay?
W: No. Honestly, I wrote it in three hours. I forgot it was due until last night.
M: How could you forget?
W: I have so much trouble staying organized. I couldn’t find the paper I had written the assignment date on.
M: Why would you write it on a piece of paper? Don’t you have a schedule or an online calendar?
W: No. I just write things down on whatever piece of paper is in front of me. Usually, I can find it later, but sometimes I can’t.
M: That sounds like a stressful way to live. You should create a system of organization for yourself.
W: I don’t know if it would work.
M: At the very least, you could buy one notebook for each class. Then you would know where to look for something you’d written down.
W: That’s a pretty good idea. I’m actually heading to the store now…
Text 8
M: Are you free today?
W: No, I’m going holiday shopping. I know it’s early, but I need to buy Christmas presents for my family.
M: Do you buy a present for everyone, or do you have a Secret Santa?
W: I plan to buy each person a gift. I’ve never heard of a Secret Santa.
M: Secret Santa is a tradition in some families. Basically, you write everyone’s name on a separate piece of paper, and then everyone takes one name. You keep the name a secret.
W: And you buy only one gift for that person?
M:Exactly. But you can buy a very nice gift. Last year, my aunt gave me a GPS device for my car.
W: Wow! That was amazing! I always get a bunch of candles and socks. That’s fine, but it would be awesome to get something big like an iPad.
M: And even better than that, you only have to buy one gift, which means you don’t have to start your shopping before Thanksgiving…like you are now!
Text 9
W:Thanks for coming to my office today. This interview is to help me get to know you and see if you do well at our school.
M: Thank you. I’m very happy to be here.
W: Good. Let’s get started. First, can you tell me why you’re interested in this university?
M: Yes. Both of my parents attended this school, and they received excellent education. I know that Harvard University has a long tradition of educating future leaders.
W: What do you plan to study?
M: I would like to major in political science. I want to become an elected official.
W: Why?
M: I am interested in protecting the environment. Right now, politicians are passing laws about it, but they don’t really understand the issues.
W: How do you plan to learn about the issues?
M: I will take classes in environmental studies and biology, in addition to my major. Also, as you can see in my application, I’ve volunteered with local politicians during the summer. I’ll continue to do this in college as well.
W: Wonderful…So, can you tell me who has influenced you?
M: My mom. She was an immigrant to her country when she first arrived, but she worked very hard her whole life. Now, she is a professor.
W: What other schools have you applied to?
M: I have also applied to Stanford and Georgetown. But this is my first choice.
Text 10
M: Ms. White is a local wedding planner, and she’s here to share some tips. What is the most important thing that couples should know before they start planning a wedding?
W: Well, couples often get very focused on trying to make things perfect. They want to have the perfect dress, the perfect cake, the perfect band, and so on. But your wedding day is only a celebration of love. The dress and cake are not the important things.
M: The average wedding in this country costs over twenty thousand dollars. Do you have tips for people who want to save money?
W: Definitely. First, think carefully about the date of your wedding. May through October is the most popular time to get married because of the weather. However, an indoor wedding in November or February can be just as nice, and prices will be much lower, too. Another tip is to have fewer guests. It is impossible to have an inexpensive wedding if you invite hundreds of people. Finally, be smart about your flowers. Look for ones that are less expensive and don’t worry about having one particular kind. Remember, the most important thing is to celebrate your love. I’ve worked with many couples, and the ones with the best attitudes had the best weddings.
