Looking for entertaining tours in Macao? Well, look no further. Here are some reviews from like-minded travelers to recommend the best things that you can’t miss in Macao.

    1. Grab a traditional Portuguese meal

Macao was colonized(殖民)by Portugal before 1999. As a result, Portuguese culture is deeply immersed into many corners of Macao. Many Portuguese settled and opened Portuguese restaurants in the special administrative region, but the flavor is more adaptable to Chinese people. One of the must-try local desserts is the Portuguese egg tart. Among all bakeries selling Portuguese egg tarts, the most popular is Lord Stow’s Bakery in Coloane, where the queue outside will never be empty.

    2. Macao Tower AJ Hackett Bungee Jump

The Macao Tower, 338 meters tall, is the world’s 10th highest tower, with a variety of activities, one of which is the bungee jump. The AJ Hackett Macao Tower Bungee Jump is 233 meters high, making it a Guinness World Record as the highest commerc ial bungee jump in the world. Raise your

arms and off you go! You can also try the skywalk on the 57th floor - it's still extraordinary.

    3. Selfie at the Ruins of St. Paul

Magically, after the several cycles of rebuilding and fires, the huge façade and the front stairway remain unburned.

    4. Watch the Macao Grand Prix

The Macao Grand Prix is a major worldwide car-racing event held annually, featuring over 300 top drivers every year. Racing through the small streets and roads over this tiny city, the Macao Grand Prix circuit is the only street circuit racing in the world for car and motorcycle events. Thus, it is also well-known as one of the world’s most demanding circuits. The Grand Prix runs annually in November every year for about four days.

    21. Which activity will be recommendable for a daring tourist?

       A. enjoy traditional Portuguese dishes

The cheerful smiles and legendary strength of the Sherpas (夏尔巴人) have been an essential part of Mount Everest climbing expeditions (探险) from the very beginning. Indeed, very few significant successes have been achieved without them.

When western mountaineers first set their feet on the world’s highest peak, they found the Sherpas are ideally suited to the hardship of high-altitude climbing, positive, strong at altitude, and seemingly resistant to cold.

Sherpas did not venture into the high peaks until European mountaineers began arriving to climb in the world’s greatest mountain range. Mount Everest, known as Chomolungma or “Godness Mother of the Land” to the Sherpas, was long considered as a living place of the gods where humans were not allowed to go.

Although Everest now sees many human footprints, the Sherpas still regard the mountain as a holy place. All modern expeditions begin with a Puja ceremony in which Sherpas and other team members leave offerings and pay respect to the gods of the mountain, hoping to remain in their good graces throughout the climb.

Sherpas were first employed as porters, carrying large amounts of equipment to supply the military-style expeditions of the day. The early climbers were amazed at the physical strength of these people, from the fittest of mature men to the young and elderly. In addition to their heavy loads, some of the women even carried along their babies. The whole troop of Sherpas slept outside, using only rocks for shelter, as temperatures dropped well below freezing.

Stronger Sherpas soon didn’t work as porters and began to undertake challenging climbing. Those who distinguished themselves as good climbers were awarded the Tiger Medal, and many desired this honor and the higher pay rate it afforded. Despite the potential dangers, the Sherpas remained enthusiastic about taking part in Everest expeditions, which even then were becoming an important source of income for a poor mountain folk.

24.Sherpas didn’t go into the high peaks before Europeans’ arrival mainly because _________

      A. they enjoyed staying at low altitudes

      B. they were short of proper equipment

      C. they considered the mountain as holy

      D. they were unaware of their potentials

    25. By mentioning the “rocks” in paragraph 5, the writer wants to indicate ________.

      A. the physical ability of the Sherpas

      B. the intelligence of the Sherpas

      C. the challenges for climbers

      D. the wild landscape of Mount Everest

26.Which of the following can best describe the Sherpas according to the text?

    A. Adventurous and addicted to wealth

    B. Generous and willing to help climbers

    C. Talented for high-altitude climbing

    D. Professional in treating altitude sickness

    27. The Sherpas desired the Tiger Medal because _________

    A. it made them become good climbers.

    B. they began to undertake challenging climbing

    C. it distinguished them from others

    D. the money it provided appealed to them

On August 30th, soon after ZAO—an app whose name means “to make”—was launched, it proved so wildly popular that its servers crashed repeatedly. Almost as rapidly, a sudden criticism from its fans nearly overshadowed its popularity.

Angry comments flooded Apple’s app store in China, where ZAO is now rated two stars out of five. Technology news media and cautious netizens had found that by signing up, users had allowed ZAO to get “completely free”, “unchangeable” and “forever” rights to all content they uploaded to its platform. WeChat, a main Chinese app, forbad ZAO links from being shared on its messaging service because of “security risks”. ZAO quickly apologized to users, promising to protect their personal data “in every possible way”.

So why did ZAO hit a nerve? One reason is that it appears to belong to a new kind of apps that create “deepfakes”(深度换脸), which use artificial intelligence to change video images. ZAO claims that it takes “just one photo for you to star in all the world’s shows”. But for the best effect, ZAO requires precise facial mapping, which users can put into the app by following voice instruction to blink and move their mouths about.

Many ZAO’s users were alarmed at the idea of these biometric(生物的)data being misused. Alipay, a big payment app, assured users that “images created through face-swapping apps, no matter how realistic, cannot trick our system”. The government, too, has taken action. On September 4th it launched an inquiry into the “data-safety issues” of Momo, a Chinese dating-app giant with ties to ZAO.

    28. Why were ZAO faced with negative comments soon after its launch?

       A. its servers frequently break down

       B. it potentially puts users’ personal data at risk

       C. it illegally misuses users’ personal data

       D. its links were banned by Wechat

29.What do the underlined words “hit a nerve” mean?

       A. touch users                        B. prove popular

    C. make users upset                   D. become nervous

30.What can we learn from the passage?

    A. ZAO can change users’ video images

    B. ZAO can accurately predict users’ images

    C. ZAO users trust the safety of their biometric data.

    D. Alipay finds it tricky to protect its system against ZAO.

    31. Where is this text most likely from?

    A. A biography  B. A guidebook  C. A novel  D. A newspaper

                                          D

From spreading fake news to fuelling online bullying, social media is under increasing fire. But the negative effects of the online advertising on children’s physical and mental health is perhaps one of the greatest challenges. Although we have enough debates about how social media has changed our lives, children’s exposure to advertising on social media is rarely discussed.

Advertising to children is widely regarded as a moral problem. Junk food advertising, which is linked to weight gain and obesity, sharpens this moral issue. Governments have a duty to protect the best interests of children. Yet very few countries have regulated junk food advertising effectively.

Regulators do seek to protect children from the harmful effects of TV advertising. However, they typically focus on advertising targeted especially at children. This has proved to be far from enough. Most ads that children see in broadcast media or the physical environment do not specifically “target” them. They are shown during family TV programs, on billboards and bus shelters, or around sports fields where children watch their teams play. Since 2010, the WHO has repeatedly stressed that children’s overall exposure to junk food marketing needs to be reduced, wherever it’s encountered.

And now, Social media platforms hold a vast database about all their users, offering advertisers detailed information for targeting ads. They offer not only  age and location, but even  psychological characteristics and preferences. The platforms identify children who are most interested in junk food and therefore its advertising can influence them more easily.

Recently, Ireland’s Department of Health adopted a new code of practice (行业准则). The code states that “marketing for HFSS (high fat, salt and sugar) food by means of social media shall not target children under the age of 15.”

It remains to be seen how the code will apply. It is only voluntary, and there is uncertainty about the accuracy of age information on social media. However, this is a significant advance on recent online junk food marketing restrictions, as it applies to all social media.

    32. According to the author, the problem with junk food advertising regulation is that ______.

       A. the authorities do not protect children from the negative effects of advertising

       B. the authorities only focus on advertising designed for children

       C. the authorities develop unrealistic policies on advertising

       D. the authorities do not have the right to punish social media platforms

    33. Paragraph 4 mainly talks about _________

       A. how social media advertising has developed in recent years

       B. how social media platforms know their users’ information

       C. why children are interested in the junk food advertising on social media

       D. why junk food advertising on social media can influence children more easily

    34. The author’s attitude towards Ireland’s code of practice is ______.

       A. positive   B. negative   C. objective   D. unclear

    35. What’s the best title of the text?

       A. Online Advertising Restrictions

       B. Online Junk-Food Advertising Targeting Children

       C. Junk- Food Advertising On the Social Media

       D. Social Media Advertising Platforms

A lecture on how to fight against novel coronavirus will be held in the school hall this Friday afternoon and it will last two hours from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm .Everyone is welcome to attend the lecture.

The lecture mainly consists of two parts, the first of which is about how the virus spreads and its effects on people. Meanwhile there are also experts’ suggestions on how to protect yourselves against the virus, including ways to wash your hands thoroughly and appropriate exercise to build up your body. I believe you will benefit a lot from the lecture and have a better understanding of novel coronavirus.

If you are interested in the lecture, make sure you enter the school hall ahead of time and keep quiet during the lecture.
