The last male northern white rhino in existence died this week.It marks the end for the entire subspecies and is yet another tragic reminder of how we are destroying our planet.Enough is enough. Please take action today and donate £25 to help save the critically endangered eastern black rhino. It's time to take a stand and protect the eastern black rhino.
The world is witnessing the extinction of the northern white rhino. This rare creature was once abundant across Central Africa, but unbelievable rates of illegal hunting for their horns wiped them out until just three individuals were left. With the recent death of Sudan, the last male, only two female northern white rhinos remain. This has to he our final wake-up call—we must stop the senseless killing of rhinos in the wild.Unless we act now,the eastern black rhino could suffer the same fate.It is on the edge of extinction with only 850 left in the wild. You can make a difference—right now.In 2004,Fauna &Flora International(FFI)helped to create O1 Pejeta Conservancy,a safe shelter for endangered animals in Kenya.O1 Pejeta is now home to over 100 eastern black rhinos, and with your support today,we can help keep them safe from illegal hunters.
By making a donation of £ 25 by 9 April, you could help us employ, train and equip guards to protect the conservancy and keep these rare animals safe.Your gift could help to protect the last few eastern black rhinos in O1 Pejeta. We must not bear witness to another extinction. Please complete the donation form to help save the eastern black rhino now.
Please return your form to:Freepost FAUNA&FLORA IN’IERNATIONAL,The David Attenborough Building,Pembroke Street,CAMBRIDGE CB2 3QZ,call 01223 749019 or go to www.Save A Rhino.org to donate online.

“Mayday! We got Mayday!”Frank Pisano screamed over the microphone to the air control tower at the airport. One of the two engines on his plane had failed, and he was now going down towards one of the busiest highways in America—Interstate 405,just south of Los Angeles—and there was no stopping it.
Driving south on the 405,near the airport’S runway, was John Meffert,a fire department captain. He was heading home from his shift when suddenly a low—flying plane caught his eye. After he took a second glance,a thought crossed his mind:“This plane’s going to hit me.”
He was right. The plane slammed into the road, popped up a few feet, and then clipped the front of Meffert’s car.It finally stopped after hitting the divider(隔栏).Meffert pulled over.He was unhurt, and his car had received only a large scratch,so he turned his attention to the plane. He ran towards the smoke, and then he saw Frank’s wife,Janan Pisano, pop her head up on the passenger side.
By the time Meffert reached the aircraft, part of it was on fire and Janan, who was covered in blood, was on the wing trying to pull her husband from the wreck.Meffert, afraid the plane would explode, guided her to safety behind it.Then,he ran back for Frank, who had been knocked out by the initial crash, lying across both seats.
Meffert carefully positioned himself under the pilot’s arms and lifted him from the cockpit. Then he dragged the pilot off the wing and carried him to safety, where they could see the plane in flames.
The Pisanos spent three weeks in the hospital.Remarkably,Meffert’s car was the only one hit by the plane.Had Meffert been a second or two faster,Frank said, the left propeller(螺旋桨))would have ripped the top off his car and killed him.
“I play all the what-ifs—going slower, going faster. It could have been a very different result,”Meffert said.“We just had a lot of angels.”
24.What does the underlined word“Mayday”in Paragraph 1 refer to?
A.A special day in May. B.The arrival time.
C.A message for help. D.The local airport.
25.Why was the plane going down to the highway?
A.Only one engine was working. B.Frank mistook 405 for the runway.
C.The plane caught fire. D.The pilot was seriously hurt.
26.What prevented Meffert from being killed?
A.His good sense of direction. B.His low driving speed.
C.His second glance at the plane. D.His belief in God.
27.It can be inferred from the passage that__________.
A.Meffert and Frank were friends B.Meffert’s car was not totally damaged
C.Janan Pisano was one of the crew of the airport D.the plane would take off again when Frank recovered

On a clear night, you can see a sky packed with stars. But you can’t see planets orbiting any of these stars, even with the strongest Earth—based telescopes.Astronomers reported that they discovered seven Earth—sized planets orbiting a nearby star called TRAPPIST—1 in February. They had to rely on indirect evidence to tell them that the planets are there.By doing some math, they figured out the number of planets and the distance of their orbits.
TRAPPIST—1 is a red dwarf star(红矮星),much smaller than our sun,but larger than Jupiter(木星).If the sun were the size of a basketball,TRAPPIST—1 would be the size of a golf ball. This star is one of our closest neighbors, just like the moon to the earth in space.
When astronomers using Earth-based telescopes to study TRAPPIST—1,they noticed that every once in a while,it became slightly dim(昏暗).They decided that a planet must be passing in front of the star, blocking part of the light. This dimming would come and go as the planet orbited the star, passing alternately(交替地)behind and in front of the star regularly.
By making careful observations, astronomers expected to get a rough idea of the planet’s size from the pattern of dimming light. But the light level changed often and not at evenly spaced (间隔的)times. The astronomers had to conclude they were looking at more than one planet! To get additional data,NASA’s Spitzer Space Telescope measured TRAPPIST—1’s brightness nearly continuously for 20 days, catching 34 crossings of planets in front of the star.Sorting through the mess of data, the astronomers found that the innermost planet completes its orbit in 1.5 Earth days, while the outermost planet takes 20 days.Once you know how long it takes each planet to complete an orbit, you can work out how far it is from the star compared with the other planets.
The TRAPPIST—l planets are not alone. So far, astronomers have found more than 3,400 planets that orbit other stars.
28.How did astronomers know the number of planets orbitting TRAPPIST—1?
A.They used their eyes. B.They used telescopes.
C.They performed some calculation. D.They made some guess.
29.How does the author introduce TRAPPIST—1 in Paragraph 2?
A.By giving examples. B.By making comparisons.
C.By providing research results. D.By listing some numbers.
30.What probably causes the star TRAPPIST—1 to be slightly dim?
A.The telescope’s failure. B.The cloud floating around.
C.The star’s moving. D.The passing planets.
31.What’s the main idea of Paragraph 47
A.The ways to get the information of the planets.
B.The introduction of the planets.
C.The distances of the planets to the star.
D.The astronomers’efforts of exploring TRAPPIST—1.

Air travel can be annoying. But research now suggests global warming could make it much worse. To get off the ground in really hot weather, planes may be forced to carry fewer passengers. That might mean a little more space, which would be good. However, it also would make the passengers pay more.
Average air temperatures around the world are rising because people are polluting the air with an increasing number of greenhouse gases, which, such as carbon dioxide, are a byproduct (副产品) of burning fuels. Those warmer temperatures can influence an airplane’s ability to fly because air molecules (分子) spread out more as the air warms. This produces less lift under a plane’s wings, so a plane must be lighter to take off in hot weather than on cooler days.
It can even prove too dangerous for some planes to attempt a take-off. A record of June heat wave in the American Southwest, for instance, caused flight cancellations in Phoenix, Ariz. One airline’s planes were cleared to operate only up to 47.8 degree Celsius. On June 20, Phoenix reached 48.3°C!
Radley Horton is a climate scientist at Columbia University. Two years ago, he and his graduate student Ethan David Coffel studied the impact of warming at four U.S. airports and found that warming of track could triple (使成三倍) the number of days when planes face weight restrictions. Later, they explored the impact of rising temperatures on live types of commercial planes flying out of 19 of the world’s busiest airports. In the coming decades, as many as one to three out of every 10 flights that take off during the hottest time of day could face weight. That would be equal to taking a dozen people off the plane, the researchers calculated.
32. How would global warming affect air travel according to the first paragraph?
A. It’ll add to the danger of flying.
B. It’ll increase passengers’ travel cost.
C. It’ll make flying much more comfortable.
D. It’ll encourage more people lo travel by plane.
33. What is the second paragraph actually intended to explain?
A. How global warming is happening. B. What decides a plane’s ability to fly.
C. Why global warming affects flying. D. Where greenhouse gases are created.
34. What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A. Reasons for flight cancellation. B. The findings of a weight-related research.
C. The tendency of temperature change. D. Effects of hot air on financial growth.
35. What should be the best title for the text?
A. Air Travel Isn’t Recommended during Hot Weather
C. Rising Temperatures May Reduce the Number of Flights
C. Weight Restrictions Are More Common in More Airports
D. Hotter Air May Lead to Planes Carrying Fewer Passengers

Being a teenager can be tough. “Troubled” and “rebellious(叛逆的)” are often labels that people give kids in their teens. There are even scientific theories explaining that the likelihood of teenagers taking is due to the fact that their brains aren’t fully developed yet. 36 .
But a new study by researches at the University of Pennsylvania and Cornell University may have finally cleared up this misunderstanding. 37 They simply are easily attracted by new things and are eager to explore the world.
The adolescents(青少年) lack experience. 38 This personality trait(特征)is called “sensation seeking”, which is shared by a lot of people and usually peaks during adolescence.
Instead of being something to worry about, sensation seeking is actually necessary, since the process of learning usually goes hand in hand with taking risks. "Teenagers need to build experience so that they can do a better job in making the difficult and risky decisions in later life. ‘Should I take this job? or ‘ 39 ’ ”said Valerie Reyna, co –author of the study.
“ 40 If they don't make a mistake in their teenage years, they will have no life experience when they turn 18 and step out of their parents' protection and into a world that 's unknown to them. Kids need the freedom to test out boundaries while still in a safe environment,” wrote Ann Robinson, editor of The Guardian.
A. Should I marry this person?
B. It turns out that teenagers are fine
C. Adolescents should do as follows
D. What can parents do to help the kids?
E. There s something scarier than taking a risk.
F. in other words, they just can t help it.
G. Therefore, they keep trying things out for the first time in their life.

第二节 书面表达
Dear Andy,
I am here to share my opinions on online courses with you. There is no doubt that it is convenient for you to learn Chinese online. And there are many different courses offered by different teachers or educational institutions, from which you may gain different experience. Besides, some online courses can provide a platform for you to communicate with other learners.
However, every coin has two sides. Online courses are not the same as traditional courses, in which you can have face-to-face communication with your teachers, discuss your problems with them or get timely help from them, which are what online courses lack.
On the whole, I advise you to take some online courses that are suitable for you and learn Chinese in a language school at the same time.
Yours faithfully,
Li Hua
