    2019高三英语考前冲刺模拟卷9

1    Anger is not wrong.I know this statement seems shocking and challenges the wildly popular “Positive Thinking” movement, which encourages us to “be full of positive energy” and  “let go of our anger”.However, the truth is that anger is just an emotion, and emotions are neither right nor wrong. We do not consciously choose them.We do, on the other hand, choose how we express our emotions and there are definitely right and wrong means of expression.

The reason we're often urged to “keep a lid on” our anger is that few people ever learn proper and positive ways to express anger.Instead, we are taught that “anger is wrong”and “you should keep your anger inside”.But these messages don't change the fact that, for most of us, anger exists.

Many popular “Positive Thinking” programmes assume that success comes from “controlling our emotions”and that this can be done by simply repeating positive statements.Interestingly,  these positive slogans often include a lot of negativity. “Only losers complain!I am a winner!” is one popular saying. The belief that those who disagree with us are losers is actually quite negative and is often used as an excuse for rude language and personal attacks.

When it comes to dealing with negative situations in our daily lives, the ability to reasonably express anger or disagreement is an important skill. But we must use balanced and  non-violent methods to express our dissatisfaction.Frustration at unfair policies or treatment can certainly cause anger, but our anger can never be an excuse for abusing family members,  damaging  schools, attacking doctors or most seriously, engaging in terrorism.

Instead of pretending that anger doesn't exist, we should start teaching appropriate means of dealing with anger. When we experience angry feelings in ourselves or others, what we should “let go of ” is the silly idea that we can remove anger with just  a few  sweet  words.Instead, we should find reasonable solutions to the causes of those angry feelings. We need to accept anger as a natural emotion but stop using it as an excuse for violent and destructive behaviour.Anger isn't wrong, but failure to deal with it appropriately is.

1.What is the writer's opinion about the “Positive Thinking” movement?

A.It can help people control their negative feelings.

B.It does not offer useful solutions for dealing with anger.

C.Following such advice can improve people's chances for success.

D.Most of the people who participate in such programmes are dishonest.

2.The underlined expression “keep a lid on” in Paragraph  2 is closest in meaning to “________”.

    A.freely express

    B.always forgive

    C.hold inside

    D.completely forget

3.What information would have been useful to add to the final paragraph?

A.The names of some good books that talk about anger issues.

B.The viewpoints of people who hold the opposite opinion to the writer.

C.Different studies that provide some evidence supporting the writer's beliefs.

D.Some examples of how to deal with anger in a positive and beneficial way.

4.The content of this passage is mostly based on________.

    A.fact

    B.opinion

3    Many Android and iPhone owners use Google services on their mobile phones or tablets. One of the most widely used location(位置)services is Google Maps. When someone uses Google Maps, information about times and locations are recorded and stored.

Google also uses tracking tools with other services. Weather apps, for example, are designed to identify a user's location to provide local weather information. Even some Google Internet searches can result in the collection of information about exactly where a person was when the search was made.

Google says it collects the data to improve users' localized experiences. But such practices have also raised privacy concerns. Privacy activists have called on Google and other major technology companies to make it easier for users to turn off location services if they do not want to be tracked. In some ways, Google is clear about asking permission to use location information. For instance, Google Maps will seek approval from a user to give the app access to locations. If a user agrees to let Google collect location information over time, Google Maps will show this history in a "timeline" that shows the personas daily movements.

Google also has a "Location Historysetting. The company says any user can turn off Location History at any time. And when Location Histoiy is turned off for a users account, it is turned off for all equipment linked to that Google account. But the AP (Associated Press) found this does not appear to be tme, finding that Google continued to save location history even if a user had turned off Location History.

Google states users can stop the saving of all location markers by turning off another setting, however, which is not clearly identified as being connected to location tracking. The setting is called "Web and App Activityn". It stores different kinds of information from Google apps and websites to a users Google account.

1.Why does the author mention Weather apps?

A.To stress Google sendees are widely used.

B.To show many apps can track a users location.

C.To prove Google collects users' data illegally.

D.To advise people to stop using them.

2.What is the voice from the privacy activists?

A.Users should use the Internet less.

    B.Google should stop tracking users.

    C.Google should respect users' privacy.

D.Google should turn off location services.

3.What does the author indicate in paragraph 4?

A.The Location Histoiy setting is difficult to find.

B.The AP asks Google to remove Location History.

C.Turning off Location History can avoid being tracked.

D.What Google announces is hardly consistent with the fact.

4.Which can best summarize the passage?

A.Google still tracks you with Location History off.

B.Using Google puts you into a dangerous state.

C.Google services urgently need to get improved.

D.Web and App Activity has endangered peopled life.

4“How can we live longer?” many people wonder. Being sociable looks like a good way to add years to your life. Relationships with family, friends, neighbors, even pets, will all do the trick, but the biggest longevity (长寿) boost seems to come from marriage or an equal relationship. The effect was first noted in 1858 by William Farr, who wrote in 1858 by William Farr, who wrote that widows and widowers (鳏夫) were at a much higher risk of dying than their married peers. Studies since then suggest that marriage could add as much as seven years to a man’s life and two to a woman’s, The effect holds for all causes of death, whether illness, accident or self-harm.

Even though the odds are stacked against you (the conditions are not favourable to you), marriage can more than compensate. Linda Waite of the University of Chicago has found that a married older man with heart disease can expect to live nearly four years longer than an unmarried man with a healthy heart. Likewise, a married man who smokes more than a pack a day is likely to live as long as a divorced man who doesn’t smoke. There’s a less pleasant

side, however, as partners are more likely to become ill or die in the couple of years following their spouses; death, and caring for a spouse with mental disorder can leave you with some of the same severe problems. Even so, the odds favour marriage. In a 30-year study of more than 10,000 people, Nicholas Christakis of Harvard Medical School describes how all kinds of social networks have similar effects.

So how does it work? The effects are complex, affected by socioeconomic factor, health-service provision, emotional support and other more physiological mechanisms (机制). For example, social contact can boost development of the brain and immune system, leading to better health and less chance of depression later in life. People in supportive relationships may handle stress better. Then there are the psychological benefits of a supportive partner.

A life partner, children and good friends are all recommended if you aim to live to 100. The best social network is still being mapped out, but Christakis says: “People are interconnected so their health is interconnected.”

1.William Farr’s study and other studies show that ________.

A.social life provides an effective cure for illness

B.being sociable helps improve one’s quality of life

C.women benefit more than men from marriage

D.marriage contributes a great deal to longevity

2.What does the underlined word “compensate” in the second paragraph probably mean?

    A.pay money

    B.provide something had

    C.help recover

    D.increase damage

3.What does the author say about social network?

A.They have effects similar to those of a marriage.

B.They help develop people’s community spirit.

C.They provide timely support for those in need.

D.They help relieve people of their life’s burden.

4.What can be inferred from the last paragraph?

A.It’s important that we develop a social network when young.

B.To stay healthy, one should have a proper social network.

C.Getting a divorce means risking a reduced life span.

D.We should share our social networks with each other.

The U.S. government s top education official wants schools to do a better job teaching students whose first language is not English. __________ That is because one in every 10 U.S. students from kindergarten to 12th grade are English learners. Most English learners come from a country where they speak another language, or have parents from a non-English-speaking country.

__________ That's what the U. S. Education Secretary John King said. He noted Spanish-speaking students are graduating from high school and attending college at higher rates than ever before."But in too many places across the country, English learners get less access to good teachers, less access to good coursework, and less access to what they need to get success," King said.

Two recent studies found English learners do better if they attend classes that use both English and the students’ native language. Kelly Gonez is a policy adviser at the Department of Education. She said such programs are still not offered by most schools teaching English learners.

__________Gonez said some school districts are hiring teachers from Spain and China. They are trying to make up for a lack of teachers in the United States who can offer teaching in two languages. __________ In New York City, for example, the city’s Department of Education says its students speak a total of 180 different languages. About sixty percent are Spanish speakers, and another 14 percent are Chinese speakers.

__________ But she said schools can get textbooks in many more languages than just Spanish and Chinese.

    A. It is very important.

    B. Many languages are spoken in the U.S.

    C. There has been some progress in recent years.

    D. Spanish-speaking students are good at studying.

    E. But such programs are not always easy to set up.

    F. Gonez said that it may be hard to find such teachers.

    G. One problem is finding enough teachers who can do that.

He talked to everyone about the importance of reducing trash, reuse things and recycling all the time. Kathy was most intelligent student I had ever known. I learned many things from her. 9答案:

    Dear Tom,

Long time no see. As it won’t be long before I graduate from high school, I have to select an ideal university in advance, which makes me really annoyed. My parents and I failed to reach the agreement on whether to go to another city for further education.

In my parents’ eyes, I’m still the little boy who is so fragile and innocent that I can’t be away from home. They believe without their tending, my life will be in a mess. However, I have been a young adult and anxious about independence and liberty. I have determined to prove myself via leaving for the university away from Tianjin. Furthermore, living in a strange but new city can not only broaden my horizon but also improve my communication ability.

For you have been away from America and studied in China for a few years, I really need your advice on how to persuade my parents to be in favor of my ideal and convince them that I can intend to my safety and health.

Looking forward to your early reply.

    Yours,

    Li Jin
