1、For a single woman, yards are a strange thing. You don’t know whether to buy a lawn mower(割草机)or hire someone to mow it. I did the latter, over many years.
There was one exception. In my early 30s,I lived in a cottage near my father, who had a tractor. He lived around the corner on an old country lane, now fully developed. But at the time,it was with ;sweet relief, having just returned from city life, that I drove his borrowed tractor down the lane in the late afternoon, mowed my land, and then drove it back in the evening light, gazing(注视)up at the stars as they came out.
Soon the routine became impossible with traffic in the developing area. I needed someone to do my yard work.
Vardman was a devoted young boy. He sang at the top of his lungs as he mowed. His work was a joy. But Vardman grew up. After his graduation from high school, which I attended, and his leaving for college,I was without.
So here I was with two African men who brought not only knowledge but a deep love of working the land. There was a peace about the work they did. The perfection was noticeable everywhere, with every border in place, the unnecessary brush cleared out. The rhythm in their work, the rhythm of their work—it was poetry to watch.
Later I moved to North Carolina. I found myself in another small house with a beautiful but wasted yard. A strange mountain man gave me a wonderful price and began what has become an exercise in grace, gratitude^ and being simple.
Over the few years I have lived here,he has slowly, patiently, lovingly turned a long-neglected place into a quiet beauty. Quiet, modest, sincere, he uses only natural products on the lawn and flower beds. After the growing season ends, he collects his final paycheck and disappears into the mountains. A quiet man is teaching me patience and how it brings beauty back.

A.To prove the good job of African mowers,
B.To show her love for African poems,
C.To praise the mowers through writing poems.
D.To describe the images of mowers in poems.
4.What did the quiet man teach the writer?

3、Four years ago, when my Indian-American friend had a baby,I wanted to get her a children’s book about India that she could share with her newborn. Because she gave birth in spring, I searched online for books about Holi, the Indian springtime festival of colors. There was no luck. With 3 million Indians in the United States, why were there so few books about this culture?
According to the Cooperative Children s Book Center, only about 25 percent of the children’s books that were published in 2017 were about minorities. Even fewer books, just 15 percents were written by authors who are minorities.
These numbers do not keeping pace with American demographics (人口统计),which is becoming more diverse. By 2045,the white population will consist of 49. 9 percent of the population. Within the youngest generation, minority babies, those who were non-white,made up more than half of all the newborns in 2016. Some 50. 3 percent of Americans younger than five years old are minorities.
Despite the changing of Americans population, book publishing professionals are mostly white. According to an industry survey, 82 percent of editors, 83 percent of salespeople, and 86 percent of executives are white. Even 89 percent of book reviewers are white.
Children's book professionals should be more mindful of the role that books play in shaping the minds and self-identities of young people. Children’s books need to be more diverse because our kids should have more opportunities to identify with and learn from people who look like them in the stories that they read. Moreover, the sooner a child learns about different people and practices, the more prepared they will be for when they encounter them in the real world, which is bound to happen.
Indeed, the publishing industry is making great efforts.

D.To tell us her love for books and her country.
2.What do the numbers in Paragraphs 2-4 show?
A.The white make up over half of the newborns’ population.
B.Most children’s books are written and read by minorities.
C.Book diversity doesn’t keep pace with population changes,
D.White book experts play a less important role in publishing.
3.What does the author mainly talk about in Paragraph 5?
A.Children's books need to be various.
B.Children's books have many readers.

4、 Poetry is an important art form of literature, and is an easy way to express your feelings. Moreover, everyone understands it in their own way. Some find relief in poems; some read them simply for peace; some read poems for simple artistic pleasure.
There are some special features of poetry, which make it quite different from other forms of literature. First of all, poems have rhythmic patterns. Generally most parts of a poem follow the same form of rhythm. Poems may have rhyme, but they don’t have to. The lines are neatly arranged together so that they express a particular feeling or emotion.
There can be various types of poems but according to the pattern or the form, there are mainly three types:
Lyrics: the lyric mainly concentrates on human thoughts and emotions rather than a story. Lyrics always bear song-like appeal. These are mainly short poems. Popular lyric poem forms are the elegy, the ode and the sonnet. William Shakespeare, Edmund Waller and Keats are some of the greatest lyric writers of all time.
Narrative poems: This type of poetry tells a story. Narrative poems are usually long poems. Epics and ballads fall under this type. Some of the greatest epic poets are John Milton, Dante, Edgar Allan Poe, Alexander Pope,William Shakespeare, etc.
Dramatic poems: Any drama that is written in verse is a dramatic poem. These poems generally tell a story. Rhyme verse, dramatic monologues and closet drama belong to this type. William Shakespeare, Christopher Marlowe and Ben Jonson are some of the great dramatic poets.
Whatever the form is, one thing, which cannot be denied, is that poetry is one of the most powerful tools to express our feelings.

9答案:
With the development of technology, Internet has become one of the most important tools to communicate between teens. It’s really convenient for teens to communicate with people, especially when in a difficult situation, such as when you’re stuck in the dangerous occasions or when you are in need.
However, the unsatisfying thing we must admit is that the Internet communication reduces the chance to meet with friends face-to-face, which is really important for our growth. I believe the best way of communication should be the combining of the Internet communication and face-to-face meeting.
The development of Internet is a sign of an advanced society. Provided that we make good use of it,it’ll become a powerful means of our development.
