    Mbile phnes are mre imprtant than ever in the daily lives f students, but hw they use them has changed greatly in the past six years. While phnes are still widely use fr cmmunicatin, a recent study has fund that mst students think talking n mbile phnes is nw ld-fashined.


    Lndn University researchers surveyed 1055 yung peple aged 13 t 18 abut their mbile phne habits. The researchers divided mbile phne use int "cmmunicatin" and "entertainment". Cmmunicatin included talking n the phne and writing messages using texting(短信)r chatting sftware. Entertainment was made up f playing games, watching mvies, listening t music and surfing the Internet. The findings were then cmpared t a 2008 study, t see what changed. The results are shwn belw:








    Perhaps mst surprising is hw little time students spend talking n their phnes these days. Six years ag the average student spent 36% f their mbile phne time making r receiving calls. In 2014, nly 10% f time was used fr talking. When students use their phnes t cmmunicate, mre and mre ften it is dne by using chat sftware like qq r wechat.


    "Cmmunicatin is still an imprtant functin f mbile phnes. But nw mbile phnes are being used mre fr entertainment than fr cmmunicatin," said Dr Harry Lectre, the research leader.
