There are many advantages to living with a native speaker  3.Although many Chinese students say that their knowledge of English grammar is good, most would admit that their spoken English is poor. Whenever I speak to a Chinese student, they always say, My spoken English is poor.    (1)    I would like to suggest that there may be some reasons for their problems with spoken English.
    First, they fail to find suitable words to express themselves due to a limited vocabulary.     (2)    . However, you can speak with a limited vocabulary, if you choose a positive attitude. Others will follow you as long as you use the words thatYou know.    (3)    Sometimes they make mistakes when they are speaking because they are shy and nervous. Yet students should remember that their goal should be FLUENCY NOT ACCURACY. Your aim in writing is to be accurate following the rules for grammar and using the right words and spelling them correctly. However, in speaking your aim is fluency. You want to get your message across, to talk to someone in English, as quickly and as well as you can, even though sometimes you may use a wrong word or tense, but it doesnt matter.    (4)    The third reason is that not enough attention is paid to listening. You have one mouth but two ears! All that hearing is necessary for you to start speaking.Fourth, most Chinese students are reactive rather than proactive language learners. Instead of actively seeking out opportunities to improve their spoken English they passively wait for speaking opportunities to come to them and wonder why their English always remains poor.    (5)     A.The person you are speaking to will understand you and make allowances for any mistakes he hears.B.They may try to avoid making similar mistakes next time.C.Obviously the better answer is to expand their vocabulary.D.If you have this proactive outlook, then you will see English opportunities wherever you go.E.However, their spoken English does not have to remain poor! G.The second reason lies in the reluctance of using what has just been learned.  4.Thank You Notes: The Essential Life LessonsThere is no greater gift for any of us to give our friends and family than the gift of gratitude.     (1)    Take a quiet moment to think about the blessings of the season and write a thank you note to everyone who made it special for you.There are some life lessons from thank you notes.    (2)    Even a child can make some lines on paper, help pick out a pretty stamp, and lick the envelope. This helps create a sense of ownership, confidence, and contribution.Thank you notes strengthen communication skills. Wherever you are, no skill matters more than the ability to communicate clearly and sincerely. It conveys reliability ,confidence and thoughtfulness.    (3)     Thank you notes remind you about what matters.    (4)    But when we write a thank you note we have to locate within ourselves some way to be grateful and find some way to express it. We do not find happiness in what we get. We find happiness in being grateful for what we have.    (5)    Not, "Thank you for the sweater. It is cool," but "Thanks for the sweater! Not, "Thanks for the game," but "We had a blast playing that game.I think you will soon discover that the more thank you notes you send, the more you become aware of how much there is to be grateful for, and how good it feels to let people know you appreciate them. A.        Saying no to a request can be a difficult thing, especially when the person making the request is your boss.    (1)    The following steps are helpful.
       Give yourself some time to think about the request before saying no.
      f the request arrives via email, dont reply right away.    (2)    If your boss asks you in person or on the telephone, request some time to give it thought and tell her you will get back to her by a specific time. Consider the request carefully to determine whether you have to say no.
       Prepare your answer before telling your boss no.
      Anticipate questions she might ask in response to your answer, and decide how you want to answer them. Rehearse your conversation with your boss out loud to help build your confidence before the real conversation.
      Choose the right time and place to speak with your boss.
      Have the conversation in private if your work situation allows you to get a moment alone with your boss. Keep in mind your bosss workday pressures and work style. If she is a morning person and gets grumpy(脾气暴躁的)in the afternoon, be sure to speak with her before lunch.

      If your boss is asking you to take on more responsibility, that shows that she has faith in your ability to do the job. Acknowledge that it means a lot to you before telling her that you feel you cannot do it.
      Tell your boss why you have to say no to the request.
            (4)    Your boss will be grateful that you answered honestly, rather than trying to take on a project you cannot handle.
      Offer an alternative solution.
      For example, if your boss asks you to serve on a committee, suggest someone else in the company that you think may be interested and capable of serving.    (5)
