Bernie wuld take his knife, cut ur first watermeln, hand us bth a big piece and sit dwn next t us. Then we'd bury ur faces in watermeln, eating nly the heart—the reddest, juiciest, firmest, sweetest, mst seed-free part—and thrw away the rest.

Bernie was my father's idea f a rich man. I always thught it was because he was such a successful businessman. Years later, I realized that it was nt Bernie's wealth itself but his way f dealing with it that my father liked. Bernie knew hw t stp wrking, get tgether with friends and eat nly the heart f the watermeln.

When the Audet family turns n the lights at Blue Farm, they are using electricity that cmes frm cws—cw manure (粪肥), t be specific.

Cws prduce a lt f wastes. One cw can create 30 gallns f wastes each day. Nw imagine the utput f ver 1,000 cws at Blue Farm. That's really a big amunt.

The machine pushes the manure int a big 600-galln tank like a small swimming pl. The tank is called a digester (化粪池) because what happens there is just like what happens inside a cw: Bacteria(细菌) get t wrk and cntinue t digest the manure.

Methane gas (甲烷、沼气)in the atmsphere is knwn as a “greenhuse” gas because it keeps heat just like a greenhuse des, causing ur planet t warm up. That's an envirnmental cncern. But the digester has a gd result. Its gas is kept and used t pwer electric generatrs (发电机).
