    第二部分 阅读(共两节,满分50分)

    第一节 (共15小题:每小题分,满分37.5分)

    阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。

    A

When we take a selfie with ur friends, the taller friend ften needs t squat (蹲下) dwn t be captured (捕捉) by the camera; but a shrt friend will have t struggle t stay in frame (画面). Despite this ccasinal prblem, humans pretty much fall within a nrmal height range and everyne usually manages t get in the selfie.

Chinese men are, accrding t Wrld Data, n average 1.71 meters tall, while wmen are typically 1.59 meters. What stps us frm exceeding (超过) these heights?

Accrding t a study frm Harvard University, the human height range is a result f evlutin. “Height is nt just abut height,” Terence D. Capellini, a human evlutinary bilgist at Harvard University, tld Ppular Science. “It’s abut the verall bilgical grwth f an rganism (有机体), at least in humans.” Over millins f years, natural selectin has influenced the way ur rgans grw and therefre the way ur bdies grw t.

In general, the genes that are respnsible fr rgan grwth are quite active in infants (婴儿), causing them t grw rapidly. But as children get lder, the genes slw dwn. Eventually, as they enter late adlescence (青春期), the genes turn ff and teenagers reach their adult height.

Accrding t the study, these grwth genes accunt fr 70 t 80 percent f ur height. The ther factrs that determine height are sme envirnmental factrs like prper nutritin and mdern healthcare. An example f an envirnmental factr is when a child desn’t get the nutritin he r she needs: The child is less likely t reach the average height.

Many peple wuld like t be taller than they are, but is that necessarily gd fr them?

Maybe nt, Ppular Science reprted. As the grwth genes mutate (变异) and stay active even in late adlescence, sme peple wh grw quickly can have health prblems.

Fr example, being very tall can put excessive (过多的) pressure n the heart. It can mean that the heart desn’t prperly circulate (循环) bld arund the bdy in sme tall peple, which can cause heart failure. Bne disease is anther side effect f being very tall. Take Rbert Wadlw frm the US as an example. At 2.71 meters, he is ne f the tallest persns in histry. He suffered frm such serius bne diseases that he needed leg braces (支架) t help him walk. He died at the age f 22 frm an infectin caused by his leg braces.

Fr this reasn, researchers suggest that gd nutritin and healthcare are the best way t grw t a tall but healthy height, nt gene interventins (干预).

What makes mst peple stay within certain standard height limits, accrding t the study frm Harvard University?

    A. Fd shrtages.B. Natural selectin.

    C. Unhealthy lifestyles.D. Climate change.

What can we infer frm Capellini’s wrds?

    A. The envirnment can greatly change human genes.

    B. Envirnmental factrs have mre effect n height than genes.

    C. Our height is clsely related t rgan grwth.

    D. Our rgans grw mre slwly than ur height.

Accrding t Ppular Science, very tall peple are mre likely t have ______.

    A. heart diseaseB. sleep prblemsC. bld diseasesD. nutritin prblems

    B

The all-adult study gave participants a questinnaire (问卷) n hw frequently they used natural spaces during childhd – fr example, playing in a garden, riding a bike at the park r hiking in a frest. They were als asked abut the imprtance they put n using such places.

Vlunteers were then given a psychlgical (心理的) test, which included a variety f questinnaires and prblem-slving activities, t analyze their nervusness and feelings f depressin (抑郁) within a fur-week perid.

The results cnsistently shwed that the peple wh were mre expsed (暴露的) t natural spaces had higher mental health scres cmpared t thse with lwer childhd expsure – as did thse wh attached higher imprtance t using green spaces.

The study’s crdinatr (协调员), Wilma Zijlema, wrte that the results “shw the imprtance f childhd expsure t natural spaces fr the develpment f a nature-appreciating attitude and a healthy psychlgical state in adulthd”. She als stressed the imprtance f “recgnizing the implicatins (含义) f grwing up in envirnments with limited pprtunities fr expsure t nature”.

Accrding t the study, 73 percent f Eurpe’s ppulatin nly has limited access (接触机会) t natural spaces. Mark Nieuwenhuijsen, directr f ISGlbal’s Urban Planning, said that “Many children in Eurpe lead an indr lifestyle … s we call n plicymakers t imprve the availability (可得性) f natural spaces fr children.”

While this study was based in Eurpe, a lack f green space can affect anyne, anywhere. S remember t make time t immerse yurself in nature, as yur mental health is just as imprtant as the physical ne.
