Scientists have lng knwn that a crw native t New Calednia is able t use tls. The birds use them t remve fd frm deep hles. Nw, American researchers have discvered a secnd species f crw with the same ability. They reprted n their experiments with Alala crws, which are frm the Hawaiian Islands.
In the experiment, the researchers placed pieces f fd in hles inside the wd. The hles were t deep fr the crws t reach with their beaks (鸟喙). But, by using small pieces f wd held in their beaks, Alala crws quickly gt the fd. They used small bjects as tls, smetimes changing them by shrtening t-lng sticks. They als made tls frm plant materials.
“The crws use their beaks as peple use thumbs n their hands.
