News Reprt 1 Tday, in agricultural news, we are sad t reprt the passing f Prfessr Li Bagu. Li, a well-respected prfessr at Hebei Agricultural University, died f a heart attack n 10 April at the age f 58. Besides teaching at university, Prfessr Li spent mre than 30 years wrking t make the Taihang Muntains green with many different types f trees.
News Reprt 1 This has had a direct impact n the lives f mre than 100,000 lcal farmers, wh have been able t escape pverty thrugh the regular harvesting and sale f their prduce, such as apples and walnuts. Thugh he had a shrt life, he will be greatly remembered as an agricultural refrmer by the thusands f farmers whse lives he had helped.
News Reprt 2 In ther news, the first cmmercial vertical farm has been built in the UK. In a vertical farm, crps are prduced in a greenhuse in large trays stacked ne abve the ther. With the grwth f cities, farmland has becme increasingly rare. Meanwhile, many cuntries lack enugh farm wrkers t grw the crps they need.
News Reprt 2 The vertical farm built by Intelligent Grwth Slutins near Dundee slves bth these prblems. Nt nly des it use space efficiently, but the farm is fully autmated, and uses lw amunts f energy and water. At the mment, the farm prduces just salad leaves and herbs. Hwever, future plans include tmates and cucumbers.
News Reprt 3 Finally, the East African Farmer Innvatin Fair has just ended in Kenya. The fair’s aim was t encurage innvatin amng farmers thrughut the regin. At the end f the fair, the hst cuntry’s Gerald Kibugi wn an award fr the creatin f his sftware, Green Huse D It Yurself.
News Reprt 3This sftware allws farmers t lk up infrmatin n hw t use greenhuses. “Farmers d nt have the time t read and apply the lessns learnt frm bks n greenhuse farming, which is why I develped this sftware,” said Kibugi. In July, 2019, an American cmpany called Thrwflame intrduced the TF-19, which is a flame-thrwing drne (无人机) fr agricultural use. The drne can hld abut fur litres f petrl, and can thrw flames up t seven metres.
The primary uses f the flame-thrwing drne are clearing away brush s that the land can be used fr agriculture, and pest cntrl. Fr example, it can be used t destry a wasps (黄蜂) nest withut endangering humans. It is thught that the drne culd als be used t get rid f ice and snw.
