The cncert, presented by Airbnb, is part f a 12hur tur t an ffshre lcatin near Prt Lincln, Australia, which is knwn as a feeding grund fr great white sharks. Rather than using the traditinal “chum” — fish parts and bld in the water t attract the sharks — rganizers hpe the music will draw them in.
This admittedly “verthetp experience” was created “t educate peple and shw them that sharks are wrthy f respect and prtectin,” accrding t Airbnb. Thrughut the day, cncertgers will bserve sharks and ther marine life in their natural habitat.
The nging, driving beat f rck music — especially the dense, bassthrumming beats f hard rck and heavy metal — can attract wild sharks in the pen cean, as Matt Waller, shark tur peratr and wner f Adventure Bay Charters in Australia, discvered in 2011.
Waller had heard frm a shark tur clleague wh experimented with underwater speakers that the sharks behaved differently in the presence f music — particularly rck music. Over time, Waller tried many types f music, with varying degrees f success in attracting sharks. In 2015, when the Discvery Channel filmed Waller playing heavy metal underwater, the music attracted the attentin f tw great white sharks: ne was 12 feet lng, and ne was 14 feet lng.
Nw, Waller is partnering with Airbnb t bradcast Kiss' music t great whites. While the Kiss shw is certainly an unusual apprach fr bringing peple and sharks tgether, perhaps the cmmn grund f rck and rll will encurage a greater awareness f sharks as creatures that are vital t cean ecsystems and deserving f respect rather than fear, Waller tld Live Science.

A study published in the jurnal Science prvides a glimmer (一丝) f hpe fr a regin affected by climate change. In recent years, several studies have warned that the ice sheet, which cntributes t a quarter f melted ice wrldwide annually, is very easy t break up. Scientists fear even slightly melting culd cause glbal sea levels t rise by 3 meters.
Researchers at the Technical University f Denmark set ut t answer hw the bedrck underneath the ice sheet f West Antarctica behaves as the ice melts. T study the land, the team analyzed data cllected by highprecisin GPS equipment psitined n remte rck frmatins in West Antarctica, which measured mvements f the land dwn t the millimeter ver a 10year perid.
“After a heric effrt t install and maintain the netwrk f sensrs in ne f the least accessible places n the planet, the team has been rewarded with incredibly valuable data, which tell an incredible stry abut the Earth,” wrte Valentina Barletta.
The team fund that the Earth was pushing the bedrck t rise faster than expected. In 2014, the surface rse by 41 millimeters: fur t five times quicker than predicted. In 100 years, the land culd be up t 10 meters higher than it is currently.
It is hped that as the ice melts, the Earth's crust (地壳) will bunce back much faster than previusly expected. In turn, this culd stabilize what the researchers described as the “catastrphic cllapse” f the ice sheet.
Barletta tld Newsweek the ice sheet will never be stable if glbal warming becmes t extreme. “Reducing the greenhuse gas will give the ice sheet a better chance f survival because that wuld allw sme knwn and unknwn feedback t create better cnditins fr the ice,” she said.
8.What happens t West Antarctica as ice melts?

B.T find ut the cnnectin between the bedrck and ice melting.
C.T find ut what really affects the speed f ice melting.
D.T find ut when West Antarctica will disappear ttally.
10.Hw did the research team feel abut the study result?
    A.Disappinted. B.Srry.
    C.Surprised. D.Angry.
11.What shuld we d fr the ice sheet's survival?

C.Create mre ice fr the ice sheet.
    D.Cut dwn the greenhuse gas.
