    A
Several years ago, the mayor of Chicago, Illinois, visited Germany, a leader in green roof design. Mayor Richard Daley later decided to have vegetation planted on Chicago City Hall. Today, the tops of many other buildings also look like parks. In Canada, the Coast Plaza Hotel in Vancouver has a forest on its roof. New York City has an unusual demonstration farm for hydroponics. The farm is on a boat called the Science Barge. Rainwater and purified river water are used to grow lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers. The farm shows the possibilities for designing rooftop systems.
Green roofs are designed to save energy and capture rainwater. Rooftops covered with plants help keep buildings cool. They can extend the life of a roof. And they can reduce water running off into streets and storming water systems.
Experts say green roofs usually do not get much above twenty-seven degrees Celsius. So temperatures might not be a problem for growing. But rooftop gardeners have to be careful not to put too much weight on the roof. This is true whether plants are grown in soil or water.
Earlier in 2008, researchers in Texas reported that green roofs can reduce a building's air conditioning costs by about one-fifth compared to black-top roofs. But they also reported that not all green roofs perform equally well. They found that designs differ in their ability to keep buildings cool and to capture rainwater. The researchers put experimental roofs on top of metal insulated boxes, to recreate green roof conditions. The study compared products from six companies to help businesses understand how to improve their designs. Each rooftop had sixteen different kinds of plants native to Texas. The researchers say the presence of native plants likely helped all the green roofs capture water better compared to sedums. Sedums are plants that need little water and often are used on green roofs. The native plants could take in more water and release more of it to the atmosphere.

[2013·江西安福中学高二期中]As computers become more popular in China,Chinese people are increasingly relying on computer keyboards to input Chinese characters. But if they use the computer too much, they may end up forgetting the exact strokes(笔画)of each Chinese character when writing on paper. Experts suggest people, especially students, write by hand more.
Do you write by hand more or type more? In Beijing, students start using a computer as early as primary school. And computer dependence is more widespread among university students. Almost all their assignments and essays are typed on a computer.
All the students interviewed say they usually use a computer.
It's faster and easier to correct if using a computer. And that's why computers are being applied more and more often to modern education. But when people are taking_stock_in computers increasingly, problems appear.
“When I'm writing with a pen, I find I often can't remember how to write a character, though I feel I'm familiar with it.”
“I'm not in the mood to write when faced with a pen and paper.”
Many students don't feel this is something to worry about. Now that it's more convenient and efficient to write on a computer, why bother to handwrite?
Many educators think differently. Shi Liwei, the headmaster of a famous primary school in the capital said “Chinese characters enjoy both practical and aesthetic(审美的) value. But those characters typed with computer keyboards only maintain their practical value. All the artistic beauty of the characters is lost. And handwriting contains the writer's emotion. Through one's handwriting, people can get to know one's thinking and personality. Beautiful writing will give people a better first impression of them.”
To encourage students to handwrite more, many primary schools in Beijing have made writing classes compulsory (必修的) and in universities, some professors are asking students to turn in their homework and essays written by hand.

    D. Chinese characters enjoy both practical and aesthetic value.
Chinese characters enjoy both practical and aesthetic(审美的) value. But those characters typed with computer keyboards only maintain their practical value. All the artistic beauty of the characters is lost. And handwriting contains the writer's emotion. Through one's handwriting, people can get to know one's thinking and personality.

___36___Very few people choose ideal and perfect jobs for themselves and they do not do the same job for the rest of their lives. With technology and everything else changing so fast, it's ridiculous to expect to stay in one job from the time you leave school to the time you retire. Even staying in the same company can be a huge challenge.___37___
The first thing you should consider is what kinds of things you enjoy doing and what you are naturally good at. You have to look at practicality issues. You have to look at what you like to do and take a realistic look at whether the market is ever going to pay you an income for doing it. Your loving doing something doesn't mean that the world is going to love giving you money for doing it. ___38___And then narrow the list down by deciding which are at your level.
___39___For example, if you want to be a doctor, you must graduate with all the papers saying you can be a doctor. The job requires a high education and an extreme amount of practice.
Many community colleges have tests that tell you what kinds of work you'd be happy to do. ___40___ For example, do you want to travel in your career or stay at home? How much money do you want to make? After you answer these questions, the computer will show you what careers you would be suited to. Keep in mind that what interests you at twenty isn't likely to be the same as what interests you at forty. You would also find some tests online. These will give you some ideas you have never considered.
    A. Then how will you choose your first career?
    B. What type of jobs are you interested in most?
    C. So pick a number of different things that you love at first.
    D. Most people's jobs change at least once or twice in their lifetime.
    E. They ask you a series of multiplechoice (多项选择的) questions.
    F. However, many companies will offer you job training before you start the work.
    G. Another thing to consider is how much education or special trainings required.
    36. D 由后文中“...and they do not do the same job for the rest of their lives.”以及“...to stay in one job from the time you leave school to the time you retire.”
故选A。
由空后的“and then narrow the list down by deciding...”
    39. G 由后文中所举的例子以及“The job requires a high education and an extreme amount of practice.”
    40. E 由后文的两个连续问句和“After you answer these questions...”
