Step 1 Revision
Check the answers to the homework
Step 2 Lead-in & Reading
1.Brainstorm:
What’s your impression of the dinosaur?
How much do you know about dinosaurs?
Ask thestudents to say as many words as possible they know about dinosaur.
2. Guess: What might be the reasons for their extinction?
Let students guess the reason .
3. Reading :
Ask students read the text “Animal Extinction” and answer the following questions:
1). When did dinosaurs live?
2). When did dinosaurs disappear?
3). What’s the rare new species of dinosaurs discovered in Liaoning Province?
4). What might be the possible reasons for their extinction?
Step 3 Deal with the language points in this part.

Step 4. Listening
渡渡鸟是一种不会飞的鸟, 仅产于非洲的岛国毛里求斯。肥大的体型总是使它步履蹒跚, 再加上一张大大的嘴巴, 使它的样子显得有些丑陋。幸好岛上没有它们的天敌, 因此, 它们安逸地在树林中建窝孵卵, 繁殖后代。16世纪后期,带着来复枪和猎犬的欧洲人来到了毛里求斯。不会飞又跑不快的渡渡鸟厄运降临了。欧洲人来到岛上后, 渡渡鸟就成了他们主要的食物来源。从这以后, 枪打狗咬, 鸟飞蛋打, 大量的渡渡鸟被捕杀。就连幼鸟和蛋也不能幸免。开始时,欧洲人每天可以捕杀到几千只到上万只渡渡鸟,可是由于过度的捕杀, 很快他们每天捕杀的数量越来越少, 有时每天只能打到几只了。1681年, 最后一只渡渡鸟被残忍的杀害了, 从此,地球上再也见不到渡渡鸟了, 除非是在博物馆的标本室和画家的图画中。
- Give students the introduction about Dodo and then let them listen and do exercise 3 on page 30.
- Listen to the tape again and choose the correct answer to complete each sentence for exercise 4.
Step 5 Speaking & Writing
- Discussion:
In pairs choose another endangered animal which you know about. Analyse why this animal is endangered
Teacher help students by giving them some useful expressions ,enable students to say freely .
- Try to write their resons.
- Share with other students.
- Writing:
Write a letter to WWF based on what you have discussed, asking them to help you save your endangered animals. All letters have a start and an ending. The language used depends on how well the writer knows the person to whom he / she is writing.
Step 6 Homework
- Finish writing the letter
- Review the whole unit
- Read the passage on workbook( page 65) and complete exercise 2 after it.
