If my thin smile didn’t match his great pleasure,it was because I had prayed fr a guitar. Fr the next tw weeks, the accrdin was stred in the hall clset. I was rdered t practice half an hur every day, and every day I tried t get ut f it. My future seemed t be utside playing ball, nt in the huse mastering sngs I wuld sn frget, but my parents urged me t practice.
Gradually,t my surprise, I was able t string ntes tgether and crdinate my hands t play simple sngs. Often, after supper, my father wuld request a tune r tw. As he sat in his easy chair, I wuld play thrugh Lady f Spain and Beer Barrel Plka. "Very nice, better than last week," he’d say.
With the fall recital (演奏会)appraching, I wuld have t play a sl n a lcal mvie theater’s stage. I wanted t skip the whle thing. Emtins biled ver in the car ne Sunday afternn.
“I dn’t want t play a sl,”I said. “Yu have t,” replied my father. “Why?” I shuted. “Because yu didn’t get t play yur vilin when yu were a kid? Why shuld I have t play this stupid instrument when yu never had t play yurs?” Dad pulled the car ver and pinted at me.
“Because yu can bring peple Jy. Yu can tuch their hearts. That’s a gift I wn’t let yu thrw away." He added sftly, “Smeday yu’ll have the chance I never had: yu’ll play beautiful music fr yur family. And yu will understand why yu’ve wrked s hard. ”
I was speechless. I had rarely heard Dad speak with such feeling abut anything, much less the accrdin. Frm then n, I practiced withut parents’ making me.

Every mrning, he'd run int the kitchen and take his spt by the sliding dr, talking t the dves while they wrked. As much as I was grieving (悲伤), I culdn't help but lk frward t the dves' visits t. We watched their prgress as if it had been a real-life sap pera unflding befre us. I'd d the cking and fr a mment, my pain disappeared, replaced by jy.
Then it all went wrng. The curtyard was a safe enugh spt fr a nest, but the rubber tree's brad, thin leaves were far frm stable. One night, a strng wind blew thrugh, thrwing the dves' nest t the grund. I heard the twigs break apart. Nthing gd ever lasts. I wuldn't blame the dves if they never came back. But they returned. And they paid n attentin t the pile f sticks that had nce been their nest. They started again frm scratch (从头开始), thugh the wind destryed all their hard wrk. The next day, and the next, they renewed their effrts, as if nthing had happened.
