Every September, as summer ends and the first day f schl appraches, I spend a lt f time thinking abut darkness.
Perhaps ther teachers wuld say the same, jkingly. But I teach a high schl curse n trauma (创伤) literature, and my students belng t a generatin described as the mst spiled ( 宠坏的), stressed and easily hurt in histry. S the questin f darkness is ften n my mind.
In 2016, Cllins Dictinary included “snwflake generatin” amng its Wrds f the Year, describing yung adults f the 2010s as a grup “less resilient (适应的) and mre likely t feel upset than previus generatins.”
But after twelve years f teaching this curse, which cvers sme f the mst emtinally difficult texts in cntemprary literature - narratives ( 讲 述 ) f war, slavery and s n - I’m pretty sure the cmment n my yung students is wrng. In particular, I dn’t buy the narrative that this generatin lacks the resilience necessary fr difficult literature. Fr years, I’ve watched my students circle tirelessly arund sme difficult questins that puzzle us. Instead f hiding frm that wrld, they try t change it in a way that will allw them t cntrl it successfully.
This is why every September, I ask my students t read the mst difficult bks I can find. I dn’t d this t hurt them. Literature is practice. And I want my students, thrugh these difficult bks, t practice living. I want them t practice recgnizing histrical gaps and t bridge them.
“But this t is true: stries can save us,” writes Tim O’Brien in The Things They Carried. I believe and stick t that idea, year after year, n the first day f schl. Nt because these stries will save my students. But because I’m hping my students will grw up and save the rest f us.
What are the yung adults f the 2010s like accrding t the Cllins Dictinary?
    A. Unscial and anxius.B. Stressed but strng-willed.
    C. Sensitive and greedy.D. Enthusiastic but self-centered.
What des the underlined wrd “buy” in Paragraph 4 prbably mean?
    A. Pay.B. Believe.C. Obtain.D. Suspect. 26.Why des the authr disagree with what the yung adults are called?
The authr has n knwledge f the yung adults.
What the authr wants is t help the yung adults hide.
The authr desn’t knw the meaning f “snwflake generatin”.
The authr knws a lt abut the yung adults frm teaching them.
What is the purpse f this text?
    A. T cmment n the new generatin again.B. T recmmend sme trauma literature.
    C. T intrduce sme teaching experiences.D. T seek sme advice frm the public.
