Racing is nothing new for Sebastian Rosado. He was born with cerebral palsy(脑瘫), which affects a person's ability to move. Though most of his life has been limited to a wheel-chair, he has done at least one race a year since 2011.
It was about a decade ago that his mother, Jaime, was training for a race in Puerto Rico, and Sebastian asked if he could accompany her. She'd have to push him in the wheelchair because his arm functions are limited, and she was okay with that. However, the race wouldn't allow it. Then, Sebastian's family decided to make a special race for children like Sebastian. The race gives them a chance to prove that despite being told from a young age that they might not be able to do some things in their lives, they can also become what they wish to be in life.
Sebastian has run it every year using a special walker. Each year, he tries to outdo his previous goal. Instead of just 5 km in 2020, he wanted to attempt to run 21 km over 30 days. Sebastian's plan is to complete the distance by May 9, accounting for completing 1 km, at most, in a day.
Sebastian used to train in a track and field facility close to home, and it's amazing to hear runners telling him things like, "Wow , sometimes I don't have the strength to train but when I see you doing this, I feel that I have no excuse," 62 swimmers are joining Sebastian's challenge this month by swimming 800 meters each one.
Sebastian has a saying that your disability is not in your body, but in your mind. It's really powerful. If you promise yourself you'll do something, you can achieve it by using your mind.
24.What is the Rosados' purpose of setting up a special race?
A.To collect money for medical research.
B.To realize Sebastian's wish to run in a formal race.
C.To encourage disabled children to make a difference.
D.To allow Sebastian to accompany his mother in races.
25.How does Sebastian run the special race?
A.His mother pushes him.
B.He runs in a wheelchair.
C.He finishes 21 km in one go.
D.He runs with special equipment.
26.Which of the following words can best describe Sebastian?
A.Humourous. B.Inspiring. C.Helpful. D.Talented.
27.What does Sebastian think of disability?
A.There is no disability at all.
B.Mind can cure any disability.
C.Real disability exists mentally.
D.The disability is very powerful.

Attention to the fight against climate change tends to be focused on trees, but 75%of the planet's surface is covered by the ocean, and a natural process taking place underwater has excited scores of investors at the recent World Economic Forum who may want to help.
During the recent wildfires in the Amazon rainforest, journalists often described trees as the “lungs of the world”, but that title most certainly belongs to phytoplankton, which alone refreshes nearly 50%of the atmospheric oxygen on planet earth, the value of four Amazons.
And, in the effort to stop the warming of the planet, our greatest assistants could belong to whales, because of the great amount of their excrement left in the sea.
A new paper published by economist Dr. Ralph Chianti highlights the influence that whales, especially blue whales, and their excrement have on climate change. It is all due to whales' excrement in the diets of phytoplankton.
The tiny marine algae floats at the center of several marine food webs, and they provide food for a host of sea creatures including whales, while also requiring whales' excrement to feed on. They also require CO2 to survive, just like trees.
Whales, after deep-sea dives for krill, return to the surface and release excrement, which is rich in nitrogen and iron, into the top ocean layer, which provides a key food source for phytoplankton.
In his paper, Dr. Chiami suggests that since phytoplankton populations expand wherever whales are,a significant effort should be made to fight against climate change by encouraging the growth and protection of whale populations. “At a minimum, even a 1% increase in phytoplankton productivity thanks to whale activity would capture hundreds of millions of tons of additional CO2 a year, which is equal to the sudden appearance of 2 billion mature trees,” says Chiami.
28.What makes the investors excited?
A.Trees' function as “lungs of the world”.
B.Phytoplankton's ability to create oxygen.
C.The success of the World Economic Forum.
D.People's continuous fight against climate change.
29.Why are whales called our assistants in fighting global warming?
A.They refresh much oxygen. B.They never send out CO2.
C.They kill much phytoplankton. D.They supply food to phytoplankton.
30.Which can best describe the relationship between phytoplankton and whales?
A.Complex. B.Competitive. C.Interdependent. D.Distant.
31.What does Chiami advise us to do?
A.Rebuild food webs. B.Try to protect whales.
C.Grow more phytoplankton. D.Restrict population explosion.

“This has gone as well as I could have dreamed, and I can fly in the near future!” Yes, Alyssa Carson, a now-18-year-old astronaut from Baton Rouge, Louisiana is capable. For her, riding the most aggressive roller coaster in the park is not a big deal. If all goes according to her plans, NASA will send her to Mars in 2033, making her the first human to step foot on the planet. She will spend two to three years living there, growing food, performing science experiments and searching for signs of life. “The Martian is actually very accurate,” she said. “A lot of things that happened in the movie are similar to what is going to happen.” She has devoted her entire life to preparing for her journey.

M: Sorry for calling so late in the day.
W: That’s OK.
M: Good. I’m actually calling about my visit. I’m afraid I've just realized can’t make the Wednesday. Can we move the meeting to Thursday?
W: OK. Yes, the afternoon is free.
3.
W: I’ve got a two-week break coming up, and I’d like to go somewhere that’s hot and sunny.
M: Hot and sunny? So you’re tired of our weather.
4.

5.
M: Need a ride home?
W: Thanks... but... my apartment is just around the corner. Besides, I need the fresh air.

W: I’m afraid the manager isn’t here at the moment.
M: Oh, that’s a shame, but maybe you could help me. I bought this mobile phone here the other day and I can’t seem to get the e-mail function to work properly. I don’t know if it’s me or the phone that’s at fault.
W: The manager will be back later if you can wait.
M: I’m sorry, but that’s no use to me. I have an urgent appointment to get to this afternoon.
W: Well, if you wait a minute, I’ll see if I can find someone else to help you.
M: OK.
7.
W: Oh no! I’m so sorry, Bill.
M: What’s the matter?
W: I’ve just deleted something by mistake.

M: Actually, could you possibly give me his mobile number? It’s quite urgent.
W: I’m really sorry, but I am not allowed to.
M: Is there any chance of you ringing him for me and asking him to call me back?

M: That’s right, yes. We are in Florence.
W: Good. Well, we’re interested in updating our current fitness rooms for guests. Our current equipment’s rather out of date and our customers often comment on this.
M: OK. How many hotels are we talking about?
W: We currently have eight hotels with fitness equipment, and three others that need it.
M: And what budget do you have for this?
W: That’s difficult to say, actually. Would it be possible for someone to come and have a look?
M: Yes, of course. Actually, we’re coming to Switzerland next month. We already have a customer in Zurich. Is that near you?
W: Not too far. I’m in Bern. It’s only a couple of hours away.
M: Fine. Can we arrange a meeting then?
W: Sure. Let’s see...

Hello, there. Good afternoon! Thank you for your finding the time in your busy schedules to come to the international student office’s first meeting for students going abroad, to South America next autumn. By the way, if you haven’t already signed next to your name on our attendance lists —they’re on the table at the entrance to the school hall—be sure to do it on your way out. Remember, this meeting is a must for you, so you need to make sure we know that you’re here. All right, to begin, we’re going to be talking about health and specifically the procedures that you have to go through in order to get your student visas for your host country. For all of you, this will include gathering health information, such as proof from your doctors that you’re not suffering from any serious diseases that may pass to others. All the information that each of you will need can be found in your country handbook that you received when you were accepted into the program. Also, each one of you is required to meet with a doctor at the student health center who is specialized in travel medicine. The health center can give you information about appointment times, but be sure to book your appointment early, because the specialist is only at the health center at certain times.
