An unpened letter that was mailed back in 1697 but never delivered has been read by researchers wh have develped a way t virtually “unfld” sealed letter packages withut having t actually break the seal.
The new technique, described in the jurnal Nature Cmmunicatins, shuld allw histrians t learn mre abut “letterlcking”, the practice f turning a flat sheet f paper with a written message int a tamper-resistant (防篡改) package.

Letterlcking hasn’t gtten much attentin until recently, hwever, and in the past, the persn wh managed dcuments wuld pen lcked letters by simply cutting them. “What d we lse when we pen the unpened?” asks Dambrgi, wh was fascinated t learn f a 17th century pstmaster’s trunk frm The Hague in the Netherlands that cntained 577 unpened letter packets.
Dambrgi and a team f researchers nw say they’ve managed t read ne f these unpened Renaissance letters, with the help f a medical scanner. “It was riginally designed t study teeth. It’s this really high-reslutin (高分辨率的) X-ray scanner,” says Amanda Ghassaei, wh explains that the device can create a detailed three-dimensinal X-ray image f a flded letter. Because the inks used back then cntain a lt f metal, says Ghassaei, the writing “shws up as a very bright regin n the scan, kind f like the way that yur bne wuld shw up really bright n an X-ray.”
The unpened 1697 letter frm the pstmaster’s trunk has an especially lvely flding pattern, says Dambrgi, even thugh the letter’s cntents make it clear that it’s just an rdinary bit f family business.

B. Because the scanner can create a rugh three-dimensinal image.
C. Because the paper used t write the letter has a very bright regin.
D. Because the scanner was first invented t check bne in hspitals.
34. What des Brent Seales think f Dambrgi’s wrk?
A. Impssible. B. Impressive.C. Ordinary. D. Questinable .
35. What may be the best title fr the text?
