When planning for your future, are you more interested in getting a job or having a career? There is a difference between the two. A job is something that will provide you with money. A career, however, is perhaps more satisfying because you will be able to follow your interests.
Zhong Fangrong, from a poor family in Henan, is a student of Peking University now. She was faced with this choice last summer. Many people had advised her to study economics or business. A degree in these subjects would lead to a good job and good pay. It would enable her to help her poor parents. But Zhong decided to study archaeology. She wants to pursue a career that she is fond of.
Making a lot of money is good. However, I think being happy in your work is even better. Money, as it is said, can’ t buy happiness, so it makes no sense to spend your life doing work that makes you unhappy.
If you’ re unsure about your future work, you should ask your parents and teachers for advice. You should also look for role models. In Zhong’ s case, this is the famous archaeologist Fan Jinshi. Fan has studied and written about the Mogao Caves in Dunhuang for more than fifty years. When Zhong wrote to Fan about her interest in archaeology, Fan replied with some advice. I think all of you should follow it: “Don’ t forget your dreams. Keep them alive and focus on your studies. ”

How can we keep our food fresh for a long time? Put it in a fridge! 16. Then how did people prevent their food from going bad in old times?
In the days of hunter-gatherers, food was always eaten straight away. The idea of cooling food was a long way off. But our ancestors slowly gave up being on the “hunt” for food all the time. As people settled, they had to find ways of keeping food fresh. 17. Food was also often put in ponds and wooden containers.
In 1748, artificial cooling was invented in Scotland. Chemical fridges were developed and taken to the market in the 1830s. However, these fridges were too expensive and too big. 18. So most people still stored their food in wooden boxes that contained ice. This explains the origin of the word “icebox.” Today, some people still use it to refer to fridges.
It was not until the 1950s that fridges “took off”. Development in technology helped fridges become smaller and 19. With fridges, they no longer had to shop daily. This saved them a lot of time.

根据上文“the boy used the jump rope every day”可知,除非生病,男孩每天都使用跳绳。
根据下文“the parents rewarded a total of 4,000 yuan”可知,经过一整年的跳跃,父母一共奖励了4000元。
根据上文“the boy not only did not grow taller … in his class”可知,这个男孩不仅没有长高,而且最终成为班上个子最矮的学生。
spend money on sth.
lose one’s appetite意为“没胃口”,句子主语为he,故此处应用意为“他的”形容词性物主代词his,故填his。
44.
go through意为“经历”,符合句意,故填through。
45.
根据下文“Parents should really just accept that height is mainly affected by the parents’ genes, and also a healthy, balanced daily diet”可知,此处指的是这是一个清楚的例子,即跳跃并不能让孩子长高。

故填so。
47.
故填there。
48.
故填the。
49.
故填to。
50.
故填was。
51.It’s raining heavily.
52.What shall we eat?
53.But it’ll take about 30 minutes to get here.
54.Do you often order in?
55.You are right!
和空格后“Let’s order in.”以及下文“so when the weather is terrible, I usually just do so.” It’s raining heavily.
52.
根据下文“How about Sichuan food?” What shall we eat?
53.
根据空格前“There’ s a Sichuan restaurant on my food delivery app”可知,在我手机上有外卖应用;根据下文“That’ s OK. It’ s better than going out in such weather.”可知,那还行吧,总比在这样的天气出去吃要好;由此可推断出此空应是和“There’ s a Sichuan restaurant on my food delivery app”构成转折关系,在描述需要花费很长时间。故填But it’ll take about 30 minutes to get here.
54.
I can’ t cook, so when the weather is terrible, I usually just do so.” Do you often order in?
55.
根据上文“I can understand. Food delivery apps are so convenient on days like this.” You are right!

We are usually deeply impressed by what we experienced for the first time. For me, my first mountain climbing left a deep impression on me.
Three years ago, my class went to climb a mountain. It was my first time to do things like this. I felt very excited at first and supposed it would be easy. However, as time went by, I was so tired that I wanted to give up. My teacher encouraged me to challenge myself.
