English teenagers will receive cooking lessons in schools. The idea is to encourage healthy eating to solve the problem that many people are overweight. Also, it worries people that basic cooking and food preparation skills are being lost because parents use too much pre-prepared fast food.
Cooking was once regarded as an important part of education in England---even if it was mainly for girls. In recent years cooking has become less important in schools. But the rising level of obesity(肥胖的) has led to rethink about the food that children are given and the skills they should be taught .
“What we want is to teach young people how to do basic, simple meals, which they can use now at home and then in their life,” said Ed Balls, an education expert.
The new lessons will start in September, but some schools without kitchens will be given a longer time to prepare. Air pollution, such as smog, has become a serious problem around the world. Besides wearing a mask, what else can we do to protect ourselves from the dirty air?
Scientists have developed a new inhaler (吸入剂) that can reduce the effect air pollution has on people. It could help millions of people who are suffering from air pollution, The Guardian reports.
This inhaler is developed by German company Bitop and contains a molecule (分子) named Ectoine. The molecule creates a layer (涂层) that protects lungs (肺部) from polluted air. It’s reported that most people can afford the inhaler when it comes to the market.
Air pollution kills more than three million people a year around the world and leads to health problems like lung and heart disease.
Andreas Bilstein at Bitop believed that the inhaler could be useful around the world, because air pollution is not just a European problem: “In Asia－especially in China－the demand (需求) for such a product is even higher.” Many Chinese cities have been suffering from smog. According to World Health Organization, two of the 10 most polluted cities in the world in 2014 were in China.

He has taught here for two years. He teaches so well that everyone likes him. But he’s going back to London next week, so we’ll have to say goodbye to him. To show our thanks, everyone can bring a small present for him. The Beach Boys will play all their new songs. They’re our favorite band. Everyone will dance to the music. We’ll enjoy ourselves here.
