    定语从句:在复合句中作定语的从句叫定语从句。通常置于它所修饰的名词或代词之后。先行词:被修饰的名词或代词叫做先行词关系词:引导定语从句的词叫关系词或引导词。
    关系代词:that, which, wh, whm, whse 关系副词:when, where, why 关系词三大作用: 连接(连接定语从句和主句) 替代(替代前面的先行词) 成分(在定语从句中要充当一定的句子成分)
    (1)I like the singer wh/that is beautiful.
    the singer(先行词)=wh/that(关系词)在定语从句中作主语
    I like the singer.
    The singer is beautiful.
    (2)I like the mvie that/which is funny.
    the mvie(先行词)=that/which(关系词)在定语从句中作主语
    I like the mvie.
    The mvie is funny.
    (3)The schl where I study is far frm my hme.
    in the schl(先行词)=where(关系词)在定语从句中作状语关系副词实际上是介词+先行词
    The schl is far frm my hme.
    I study in the schl.

    1.Wh 指人,在定语从句中作主语或宾语。作宾语时可以省略。
    e.g. The man (wh) I talked with is ur teacher. A persn wh steals things is called a thief.
    2.Whm 指人,在定语从句中只作宾语,可以省略, 但是当介词提前时不能省略。
    e.g. The man (whm) I ndded t is Mr. Li. The man t whm I ndded is Mr. Li.
    3.Which 指物,在定语从句中作主语或宾语。作宾语时,可以省略。
    e.g. Views which are entirely new r freign may als be hard t accept. I’ve gt a nvel (which) yu may like t read.
    4.that 指人或物,在定语从句中作主语或宾语。作宾语时,可以省略。
    e.g. A plane is a machine that can fly. He is the man (that) I tld yu abut.
    5.whse 指人或物,在定语从句中作定语,不可以省略。
    e.g. She is the little girl whse parents were killed in the great earthquake. We live in a huse whse windws face suth.
    A. That指物时一般可以和which互换,指人时一般可以与wh互换,但在下列情况下引导词只用用that,不用which或wh。
    (1).先行词里同时含有人或物时,关系代词用that。
    E.g. I can remember well the persns and sme pictures that I saw in the rm.
    (2).先行词为all, any, much, many, everything, anything, nne, the ne等不定代词时,关系代词用that
    E.g. Is there anything that yu want t buy in the shp? All that can be dne has been dne.
    (3).先行词被序数词或形容词最高级修饰,关系代词用that
    E.g. This is the furth film that has been shwn in ur schl this term.This is the best nvel that I have ever read.
    (4).先行词被the nly, the very, the same, the last, little, few 等修饰时,关系代词用that。
    E.g. This is the same bike that I lst. This is the very bk that I want t find.
    (5).以wh或which引导的特殊疑问句(避免重复),关系代词用that。
    E.g. Wh is the girl that is crying?Which f us that knws smething abut physics des nt knw this?
    (6).主句是there be 结构,修饰主语的定语从句用that。
    E.g. There is a bk n the desk that belngs t Tm.
    B.只用which的情况
    (1)当关系词前面有介词,指物时常用which。e.g. The cmpany in which he wrks is big.
    (2)非限制性定语从句指物时,多用which。e.g. The result f the experiment was very gd, which pleased us.
    (3)如果先行词本身是that或thse,只能用which。e.g. This is that which he bught yesterday.
    Relative adverb
    用关系副词when时,先行词指时间,在从句中作时间状语, when可换成“介词+关系代词”。
    e.g.I still remember the day when (=n which) I first came t Nanjing.My father was brn in the year when (in which) wrld war II brke ut.
    用关系副词where时,先行词指地点,在从句中作地点状语, where可换成“介词+关系代词”。
    is the farm where (=n which) we wrked when we were yung.The schl where (=in which) his mther teaches is in the west f the city.
    用关系副词why时,先行词指原因,在从句中作原因点状语, why可换成“介词+关系代词”。

    (1) I dn’t like the man. He is smking.
    (2) He is my friend. His father is a pliceman.
    I dn’t like the man wh/that is smking.
    He is my friend whse father is a pliceman.
    (3) The schl is in the west f the city. His father teaches in the schl.
    The schl where his father teaches is in the west f the city.
