    第二部分:阅读理解(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)

    阅读下列短文,从每题所给的ABCD四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

    A

My father was Chief Engineer of a merchant ship, which was sunk in World War Ⅱ. The book Night of the U-boats told the story.

     Memories

In September, 1940, my mother, sister and I went to Swansea, where my father’s ship was getting ready to sail. We brought him a family photograph to be kept with him at all times and keep him safe.

Then I remember my mother lying face down, sobbing. She had heard from a friend that the ship had been sunk by a torpedo(鱼雷).

I can remember the arrival of the telegram(电报), which in those days always brought bad news. My grandmother opened it. It read, “Safe. Love Ted.”

My most vivid memory is being woken and brought down to sit on my father’s knee, his arm in a bandage.

He was judged unfit to return to sea and took a shore job in Glasgow for the rest of the war. For as long as I can remember, he had a weak heart. Mother said it was caused by the torpedoes. He said it was because of the cigarettes. Whichever, he died suddenly in his early 50s.

Ten years later I read Night of the U-boats and was able to complete the story.

     Torpedo

One torpedo struck the ship. Father was in the engine room, where the third engineer was killed. He shut down the engines to slow the ship making it easier for it to be abandoned.

By the time he got on deck(甲板) he was alone. Every lifeboat was gone except one which had stuck fast. When he tried to cut it free, it swung against the ship, injuring his hand and arm. He had no choice but to jump—still with the photograph in his pocket.

Three days later, he and other survivors were safe in Glasgow. All 23 with him signed the back of the photograph.

        A Toast

In my room is the book and the photograph. Often, glass in hand, I have wondered how I would have dealt with an explosion, a sinking ship, a jump into a vast ocean and a wait for rescue? Lest(以免) we forget, I have some more whisky and toast the heroes of the war.

    36. We can infer that the mother and children went to Swansea _____.

    A. to meet a friend                  B. to see the father off

    C. to take a family photo              D. to enjoy the sailing of the ship

    37. What did the author learn about the father from the telegram?

    A. He was still alive.                 B. His knee was broken.

    C. His ship had been sunk.            D. He had arrived in Glasgow.

    38. The underlined word “it” in Paragraph 6 refers to the father’s _____.

    A. weak heart                     B. taking a shore job

    C. failure to return to sea            D. injury caused by a torpedo

    39. What can we know about the author’s father after his ship was attacked?

    A. He lost his arm.            B. He repaired the engines.

    C. He managed to take a lifeboat.      D. He was the last to leave the ship.

    40. What is the passage mainly about?

    A. A group of forgotten heroes.

    B. A book describing a terrifying battle.

    C. A ship engineer’s wartime experience.

    D. A merchant’s memories of a sea rescue.

“Experience may possibly be the best teacher, but it is not a particularly good teacher.” You might think that Winston Churchill or perhaps Mark Twain spoke those words, but they actually come from James March, a professor at Stanford University and a pioneer in the field of organizational decision making. For years March(possibly the wisest philosopher of management) has studied how humans think and act, and he continues to do so in his new book The Ambiguities of Experience.

He begins by reminding us of just how firmly we have been sticking to the idea of experiential learning :“Experience is respectedexperience is soughtexperience is explained.”The problem is that learning from experience involves serious complications, ones that are part of the nature of experience itself and which March discusses in the body of this book.

In one interesting part of the bookfor examplehe turns a doubtful eye toward the use of stories as the most effective way of experiential learning. In our efforts to make stories interesting, he argues, we lose part of the complicated truth of things. He says “The more accurately reality is presentedthe less understandable the storyand the more understandable the story, the less realistic it is.”

Besides being a broadly knowledgeable researcherMarch is also a poet, and his gift shines through in the depth of views he offers and the simple language he uses. Though the book is short, it is demanding: Don’t pick it up looking for quick, easy lessons. Rather, be ready to think deeply about learning from experience in work and life.

    41. According to the text, James March is ____________.

    A. a poet who uses experience in his writing

    B. a teacher who teaches story writing in university

    C. a researcher who studies the way humans think and act

    D. a professor who helps organizations make important decisions

    42. According to James March, experience ______________.

    A. is overvalued                B. is easy to explain

    C. should be actively sought       D. should be highly respected

    43. What can we learn from Paragraph 3?

    A. Experience makes stories more accurate.

    B. Stories made interesting fail to fully present the truth.

    C. The use of stories is the best way of experiential learning.

    D. Stories are easier to understand when reality is more accurately described.

    44. What’s the purpose of this text?

    A. To introduce a book.               B. To describe a researcher.

    C. To explain experiential learning.      D. To discuss organizational decision making.

    45. The underlined word "demanding" in the last Paragraph probably refers to ________.

    A. in need        B. making readers work hard

    C. worth reading       D. definitely meaningful

    C

Tim Richter and his wife, Linda, had taught for over 30 years near Buffalo, New York—he in computers, she in special education. “Teaching means everything to us,” Tim would say. In April 1998, he learned he would need a heart operation. It was the kind of news that leads to some serious thinking about life’s purpose.

Not long after the surgery, Tim saw a brochure describing Imagination Library, a program started by Dolly Parton’s foundation (基金会) that mailed a book every month to children from birth to age five in the singer’s home town of Sevier, Tennessee. “I thought, maybe Linda and I could do something like this when we retire,” Tim recalls. He placed the brochure on his desk, “as a reminder”.

Five years later, now retired and with that brochure still on the desk, Tim clicked on imagination-library.com. The program had been opened up to partners who could take advantage of book and postage discounts.

The quality of the books was of great concern to the Richters. Rather than sign up online, they went to Dollywood for a look-see. “We didn’t want to give the children rubbish.” says Linda. The books—reviewed each year by teachers, literacy specialistsand Dollywood board members—included classics such as Ezra Jack Keats’s The Snowy Day and newer books like Anna Dewdney’s Llama Llama series.

Satisfied, the couple set up the Richter Family Foundation and got to work. Since 2004, they have shipped more than 12,200 books to preschoolers in their area. Megan Williams, a mother of four, is more than appreciative: “This program introduces us to books I’ve never heard of.”

The Richters spend about 400 a month sending books to 200 children. “Some people sit there and wait to die,” says Tim. “Others get as busy as they can in the time they have left.”

    46. What led Tim to think seriously about the meaning of life?

    A. His health problem.       B. His love for teaching.

    C. The influence of his wife.      D. The news from the Web.

    47. What did Tim want to do after learning about Imagination Library?

    A. Give out brochures.                   B. Do something similar.

    C. Write books for children.                D. Retire from being a teacher.

    48. According to the text, Dollly Parton is           .

    A. a well-known surgeon                  B. a mother of a four-year-old

    C. a singer born in Tennessee               D. a computer programmer

    49. Why did the Richters go to Dollywood?

    A. To avoid signing up online.        B. To meet Dollywood board members.

    C. To make sure the books were the newest.      D. To see if the books were of good quality.

    50. What can we learn from Tim’s words in the last paragraph?

    A. He needs more money to help the children.     B. He wonders why some people are so busy.

    C. He tries to save those waiting to die.          D. He considers his efforts worthwhile.

    II(非选择题  25分)

    第三部分:写作(共两节;满分25分)

    第一节: 阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)

Capturing a moment in time isnt just about securing a memory- it can help us appreciate our life more every day.

As a studentmy campus has been my whole world. While it may seem limitingstudying with the same classmates and the same teachers in the same classroom every day has given me many opportunities to make great memories. I love the jokes told by my teachers in classthe songs my roommates and I sing together and cheerleadersloud cries at basketball games. Even the glow of the sunset with the mixture of purple and vivid red over the playground is mesmerizing.

And that is why I began to record my school lifeand Ive kept this habit for three years up until now. The first attempt, in the form of a diary, fell through as soon as my actual experiences became far more exciting than my words. So I bought a camera, with which I recorded every fascinating moment in my school life. Every weekend I transferred those photos to my phone and posted them on my social media. Without fail, I would find how joyful my school life was and how much progress I made, which in turn instilled(注入) more passion and purpose into the coming weeks.

As I progressed to senior high school, that camera gave way to camcorder(便携式摄像机) More and more videos drove me to learn video editing. Those valuable videos witnessed me joining the school choir(合唱团)training for sports meets, complaining about the burden of studying and having fun in the dormitory. They have become a labor of love and naturally my source of happiness.

When I look back on my diaries, photos and videos during this winter vacation, those fond memories came flooding back. Recording my school life lets me not only capture every precious moment in the course of my growth but also gives me the ability to observe and appreciate my surroundings and create joy in my life. It creates positive impact on my friends, showing them how wonderful life is and how it all depends on how much enthusiasm you show. So imagine how amazed I was when people said they felt youth and vitality through my work

    51. What is the purpose of the author capturing the moment by camera? (no more than 10 words)

    52. The underlined phrase in Paragraph 2 may have a similar meaning as ______. (no more than 5 words)

    53. Why did the author buy the first camera? (no more than 12 words)

    54. What is the title of the passage? (no more than 10 words)

    55. How do you capture the unforgettable moment in your school life? Please explain it. (no more than 20 words)
