The Vienna-based researchers shwed that dgs will stp ding a simple task when nt rewarded if anther dg,which cntinues t be rewarded is present.
The experiment cnsisted f taking pairs f dgs and getting them t present a paw fr a reward. On giving this"handshake"the dgs received a piece f fd.One f the dgs was then asked t shake hands,but received n fd.The ther dg cntinued t get the fd when it was asked t perfrm the task.
The dg withut the reward quickly stpped ding the task,and shwed signs f anger r stress when its partner was rewarded.
T make sure that the experiment was really shwing the interactin between the dgs rather than just the frustratin f nt being rewarded,a similar experiment was cnducted where the dgs perfrmed the task withut the partner.Here they cntinued t present the paw fr much lnger.
